looking for a 87-88 thunderbird turbo coupe with a 5spd rear disc and less than 150k miles and in running condition for less than $1000.
Your better to look for a drivetrain than a whole car.
The people on here won't likely sell you a car if they know your going to hack it up.
Did he say he was going to hack it up? Or just because of his username and profile pic?
well if he knew what he was after he would know that the 87-88 TC's came with rear disc.
Just going by his user name which is: 93 stang future 2.3turbo
sorry but your not getting mine and I'm not going to help you find one to kill.
There are enough wrecked/rusted/plain wasted ones still out there to tear apart. I'm in the process of tearing apart three that had been left to die. I'm just finishing what some else started.
Keep looking and you'll find a drive train suitable for your needs. Just don't tear one up that could be saved by someone else.
I picked up a 2.3 turbo with 5 speed set up for $500 about 10 months ago. They are out there.
Mercur guys are eating the t-birds up too. LEAVE EM ALONE!
HI, Are you looking to part one to install into your Mustang or need a car. I have many parts from a 88 TC that I parted some time ago.
I know the motor is in a dry garage and all the wireing and computer is there.
Let me know
Ken
well dont worry about it i found one for cheap so im good i could have sworn ive seen a few TC's with rear drum (bluck) also wanted to know if anyone would want a parts car not going to part it out would take too long and i dont have three months i plan on selling the whole thing for $500 so someone can make a drag car or put a 5.0 in it if they wanted too.
Not trying to burst your bubble, but if guys can still find running/driving cars for under $500, you'll be lucky to get more than two bills out of a rolling shell. Not to mention, didn't you say in the other thread that you're only paying $400 for the running car? Wow, destroying TC's and trying to be a profiteer. You da man.
try to do what i can with what i got besides im actually paying $480 for the gas and insurance he has to put on it and i plan on people trying to talk me down so if i get $450 ill be happy.
this is the only one i found under $500 within 1000 miles of my house so there arent many to believe it was only 90 miles away is a miracle.
Knowing now that you paid 480 and you would be asking 500 for the car less the motor and tranny, I don't think you would have much luck here. Why not just keep the tc, and fix it up? Less money involved in swapping (because yes, you will spend more money doing the swap) and it is by far a much better looking car than a fox stang.
people on mustang forums would probably beg to differ also insurance would be cheaper and a lighter car.
But this is not a Mustang forum (See the reasoning??;)) And as far as the insurance, I did a geico quote and they are the same.....not saying either/or would be cheaper somewhere else, but generally between 2 cars, same maker, almost exactly the same motor (minus the turbo) the rartes can't differ too much.
yah but thats not up to me its up to my mom and since she wont let me get another car this is the best option also you cant beat the weight difference unless i took out the interior but if i did it to my car now it still wouldnt make a difference.
Well unless your racing the weight diff isnt that big a deal. And your mom said she wont let you get another car, yet your buying a tc??? Mustangs are a dime a dozen man
So are tc's with over 150,000 miles. I did a quote and insurance is higher for the tc then a mustang. And the weight would be pretty close. If you like the mustang, then swap it all out and possibly ruin, break, and re buy parts that already work fine in the other car. It almost a downgrade to put them in a mustang. I'll bet the weight would be within 100# of a similiarly optioned mustang. And the tc has a slightly more favorable front to rear ratio. But you can still buy ANY part for your mustang, minus the turbo coupe stuff you plan on putting into it. Unless you spend some money on the lil 4 banger, your still probably gonna be slower then a 5.0. Especially if you factor in that it has less torque, horsepower, and you have to wait for it to get into boost. It will be faster then a 5.0 definately after thinking about it logically.
well i bought it this morning its not worth saving it was on the beach its whole life so rust is every were but it runs great and pull well except for the clutch slipping it also wasnt an 87 like he said its an 86 but im still looking at making it work.

here are the pix
Heh, thats better looking than 95% of ohio finds...
I bought an 20th anniversary cougar site unseen for $200. I couldn't even jack it up it was so rusty. I tried a few places and it sounded like slowly stepping on a pile of roaches.
CoogarXR
Do a search on here and at turboford. You should find everyhing you need between the two sites.
belive me it looks better in the pix.
Cool. Of course that won't have the 8.8 with discs. Or the intercooler. Or the good computer. It does have the better turbo though.
On the upside, it looks like you found a new home on the internet where you can hang out with a bunch of other people who have no respect for the turbocoupe. Have a nice time.
X2, I still say keep the tc as it is. More pics would prove me wrong, but it looks like a pretty decent car from what you have shown, but i can already see there is no persuading you, cuz you're a mustang guy. Sell the 'stang, fix the tc. Have fun tearing it up:toilet:
Where is all this rust?
Give me the roller since it isnt worth saving.
The turbo coupe in those pics look miles better than the mustang. It'd say he's going backwards.
That's a pretty sweet park bench in the background.:pbb:
x3...Good, you got your car now go away.
I can respect the fact that he wants to do a i-4 instead of dumping it for a 5.0, but, That car is in great shape compared to the ones I have been driving.
it has a whole rusted in the front bumper extension on the driver side and tons of small rust spots that could be fixed but not cheaply it also needs a new steering wheel and seat and a new arm rest the door lock has some problems no radio all the power stuff works besides the driver door lock cant think of any thing other off the top of my head
if you want to see all the pix here you go

Link fail, asking for login.
Anyway, don't feel to bad. I took a turbo coupe and put a 5.0 in it. But it wasn't a running vehicle so I guess that makes it okay.
this thread me off..
your the one letting it piss you off.
and you will never understand why...
because you think im destroying a perfectly good TC if you saw it in person you wouldnt be saying that.
Mustang guys just wont ever get it. Flip though your catalogs of aftermarket support, picking and choosing whatever it is you need. We'll just keep fighting to find parts, searching everywhere we can, and trying to keep them out of the hands of destruction.
Why didnt you get a Cobra or SVO? Guess you wouldnt want to destroy one of them.
You have to understand where we are coming from. You are taking another one of our cars and ending its life. You might have noticed, there arent as many floating around as Mustangs. So what will become of the car? S metal?
When I said give me the roller I meant $0. It was a joke.
this thread me off as well, but I cant help myself from posting. Mainly because several guys offered you a complete set-up for the same money as you just wasted on a whole car, that you will have a hard time unloading now that it has no running gear. The main people that would want to buy it are on here and i doubt you'd get $50 for it now. Oh the irony. And now I see that you bought the wrong year and need a computer which is gonna cost ya even more. Good job. I think I will go over to the Merkur site and tell them I need an engine for my T-bird and I am going to rip my XR apart and then sell someone the roller for the same amount i paid for it. Wonder how long that would last before I got banned. It is called trolling and it is disrespectful to all the guys/gals who like these cars and spend their hard earned time/money on them.
cobra or svo a few things to help you learn cobras just as rare as a TC but $9000 more expensive svo's even more rare and $4500 more expensive.
aparantly you have never owned a 2.3 mustang before because there are no upgrades for it three things i can do to make it faster ranger header, cam, and a cold air intake. that gives me about 115hp not worth the money also you guys were offering me a motor for like $300 i bought the whole car for 400 so are you going to sell me the ecu tranny large vam and all the other stuff i need for $100 i dont think so and i wont be able to get my money back off of the resale which i have someone who wants to buy it now for $400 as a roller and put a 357 in it.
I have seen a 2.3 mustang that would run with the 5.0's its all in how you build them. and as far as the engine goes I offered you a FREE 2.3t and you didnt take it.
What I'm about to type is completely off-topic, but oh well, half the posts here are too.
You bought a TC, an '86, which is the wrong year to do you much good at all, and then you come here with a chip on your shoulder about it when challeneged?
...what do you expect? For us to to slap you on the back and say "good job'?
Ha...not.
So you were basically looking for an '87 TC, but you went and bought an '86 instead?
Sounds like you are both un-informed AND unwise.
Why don't you go to a j-y and get the parts off of a totalled out TC, instead of buying one that still has some life left in it...
Oh, one more thing
Go away troll. :flame:
Personally, you picked the wrong web forum. I hang out alot over on Turboford.net, and that's probably where you should have started. They tend to be alot more receptive to what you're doing. But I'll warn you now, USE THE SEARCH FUNCTION, or we'll be even more unkind to you over there.
Going and buying an 86 when you really needed an 87/88 just shows your lack of ability or motivation to do your research. Your now looking at laying out several hundred more to get the job done correctly. Yes, you can use the small VAM, and small injectors, buy why would you want to when you could've done it right in the first place? Being on a tight budget, you should've waited for a more suitable donor.
Also, if you really have someone who's willing to give you $400 for what you call a rusted roller, either they don't know what they're looking at, or that car is a whole lot more solid then you're saying. Which is it?
This is simply not the place to troll for a TC to tear up. If you wan't to fix up and drive a TC, this and Turbotbird.com are the places to be. Otherwise, stick to Stangnet, Turboford, or the corral.
Whoever you sell the bird to,... you should throw this site at them......Then maybe there will be a chance for the car to be saved...
he isnt going to s it he's going to put a 357 in it and make it a street/stirp car.
Man this tread is turning into a mess.
I got 1 question..
Are you still looking for a 87/88 TC like the add says?
If not, this tread will be closed...........................
go ahead and close it the tread is getting a bit annoying to look at.
Speaking of annoying......Why can't you just go away. :flip:
1. You buy it for $350 and want to sell for $500 with no engine? You sir are a crook.
2. The TC looked better than the Mustang did! I'd rather save the TC! :rollin:
3. I do not like you :beatyoass:
Mods...seriously why has this post not been deleted and the poster reprimanded. This guy is trolling to destroy the very car this site is meant to save. I have nothing against the kid, but he's everyone off with what seems to be a :flip: to TC's.
This kid needs to feel the wrath of the......

you cant see the rust in the pix there is one in the drive front bumper extension that is blocked by the tree the trunk doesnt line up many other things paint is bubbleing from the rust under the paint
i unlocked the pix so you guys can see them.

your wish is my command.
P.S. Your "rusty" car looks perfect in comparison the one daminc is almost done restoring.
