i replaced the TPS a few weeks ago. 1986 5.0. Idle was all over the place and TPS cured it. I don't know if it makes a difference but i'll mention that i changed the TPS back when it was still kinda cold out everyday. for about the past 4 days it's been pretty warm out. here's what happened friday and today-
let engine warm up for 90 seconds. drive 1/2 mile to child care place. leave car running, deliver baby to staff, get back in car put in gear and get on highway.....everything is fine. Then- Drive on highway 10 miles, make stop at coffee shop near work, leave car running, come back out to car and put it gear, stalls. Then Starts right back up and i take off just fine.
Possibly normal, may need the IAC cleaned... Why are you letting it run anyway??? Practicing a fast getaway from the coffee shop???
Not if it's not there when he comes back out. Did you check for codes?
i'll check into the IAC. no codes. Why do i leave the car running? good question. force of habit i guess. it's gotten to the point where i'm outa there in less than a minute because the girl knows my vehicles and makes my coffee as i'm pulling in. i was just thinking- if i stop at the coffee shop 200 times a year (4 days a week) i wonder what is better in the long run? shutting the engine so it doesn't idle for those 200 minutes? or leave it running therebye decreasing wear and tear on the starter?
Jerk off kids put a ton of "wear and tear" on a car when they jump in the running cougar that shows up religiously at the doughnut shop every morning at 8am for a quick joy ride. :burnout:
