Title: The newest toy!
Post by: amooset on May 11, 2009, 12:51:33 PM
Picked this up for $3500 (a steal!) a couple of weeks back.  There is plenty of neck-snapping torque   It's a 2002 VTX 1800 with 18,000 miles on it.  How many riders are on the boards these days? I'd like to see what some of you have.

those are all cool bikes. i wish i had a picture of my first bike.  it was bought i think from Northern Parts or whatever that store is called.  it came with a 3.5hp brigs n stratton, and me and my dad swapped in a 5hp tecumpsy(spelling?) from a wrecked go-cart.  guess what the nameplate on the front said?  and i shiznit you not.  "Thunderbird."  along with a gas powered golfcart, my dad spent a fortune on gas for the bike and golfcart. for 2 years i was driving/riding something every day, all day, till dark.  my uncle has a harley, dont know what kind.  sportster i would guess.  i've never ridden it but thats b/c i learned my lesson on my cousins yz250.  well technically you can say i learned the lesson off the bike.. in the dirt.  give me a flat track bike, and i can ride it (thats basically how the mini-bike was built) but put me in the air, or on asphalt.. and i WILL hurt myself.

Haha, usually "building" a bobber involves "unbuilding" a stock bike.  Hacking stuff off, etc...  I attempted something like that with my previous shadow but stopped short of chopping the fenders down and removing the sissy bar.  I hate the look of sissy bars but they're just too practical on the long hauls to get rid of.

4bangen - does your exhaust dump on both sides or is a cleverly concealed 2 into 1 pipe?  I always did kinda like the intruder series.  I almost bought a 1500, until I rode it.  The 800's are pretty snappy for their size though.

Thats where the chopper piece comes in. I want the basics of a bobber but since there will be major frame altercations it wont be just a bobber anymore. A mix bobber/chopper build. Hard to explain the ideas in my head but the front will be racked in and rear hard tail stretched just enough for a B seat. One day....

I cant fraw them either. So everything I think of has to be done before I can see how it will look. Ive been bending frame ideas out of paper clips. Its been helping a little.
