Hello,
I am new to this forum and Cougars. I have an 87 TBird Turbo Coupe that I've had for several years and have done a lot of mods to it.
A few days ago a friend of mine gave me an 85 XR7. It's in pretty bad shape but could be restored. It has the 2.3T with a 5 Speed tranny.
What is everyones take on this Cougar. Is it worth restoring?
Thanks,
Bobby

Welcome! I would say the 85 XR7 is totally worth restoring.
Yes, 85 xr7 with 5-speed is getting to be pretty rare, 100% worth restoring.
welcome to the site, lets see some pics!
Thanks guys. I will get some pics soon. Right now it's not much to look at. He brought it to me on a rollback.
The major things I see are, it need a right fender, a hood and a headliner. What were those headliner made out of? It seems to be foam or something. It is completely disentergrated.
Goodness its like we have been finding all the 85 XR7's lately isn't it? Welcome and restore that car ASAP!

of the XR7!!
P.S. Welcome!!
You can get a hood and a fender from any 83-86 Tbird/Cougar. You should be able to find something decent and useable down south.
The headliner is a foam-backed fabric glued to a backer board. You can just buy the material, pull the headliner board out of the car, clean all the old foam off the board and attach the new fabric. Not that hard to do. Using a good hi-temp adhesive is key though, and it's usually not cheap.
Welcome to the board Bobby!
Yes, any Turbo 83-88 T-Bird or Cougar is worth restoring.
