Hi i have a 1986 thunderbird élan with the 3.8 engine and i was curious to know how much it weight but the sticker in the door jamb was quite faded aways but i still managed to read it with alot of light and the curb weight is rated at 4312 pounds is this possible? i mean alot of guys with 5.0l engines fox t birds ive seen on cardomain.com claim theirs are about 3600 -3800 pounds any clues?
You're probably looking at GVW (or whatever) that shows max load. Your car is probably about half a ton less than that.
The sticker on the door jam is NOT the curb weight....
probably closer the the LS according to coolcats.net

I would guess your car weighs around 3300-3400
Our 460 T-Birds weigh 3350 and 3400.
My 84 is down to 2950lbs but I'm planning a rollbar so the weight will go up.

How much stuff ya got in those cars (ie a/c power seats, ect)? My fully loaded 88 LX (only missing a sunroof otherwise it has every option) is a pig. It weighs 3600 lbs and 3760 with me in it :hick:
The base curb weight seems to increasingly rise from 83 through 88 also.
Although i would like to know what the curb weight on a fully loaded '83 Heritage is versus the fully loaded '88 XR7 @ 3485lb.
manual seats. No a/c. has heaters tho. Full interior and frame connectors.
I didn't weigh the 83 before i put the 460 in tho.
That 87 TC weighed around 3350 new. It was the only "zero" option Turbo Coupe I have ever owned.
Yeah I'm betting the dual power seats and A/C with ECC add a couple of hundred pounds ;)
i had all the a/c components removed and relocating the ps/pump was a pain since the bracket wasnt good to be used if the ac compressor was off so my dad made a new bracket and i bought some underdrive pullies for the 3.8 stang
worked as a charm
