If I purchased a Crane Energizer cam, non-roller, would it be considered a H.O. or S.O. cam, for timing purposes?
It should state somewhere as to the application, as there's a lot of difference, as we all know.
It's probably application specific...meaning if you order it for an '88 V8 Tbird, it's most likely gonna be SO...and so on, so forth.
Have you referenced part numbers? ;)
When I bought the cam, I was still of the impression that there was no difference in timing. This has been a very "learn as you go" experience. Crane cams went under, and the cam I purchased is no longer listed for sale anywhere, cant even pull up the numbers lol.
I guess I could always run it with both orders and see which one runs like spit. It was purchased for a '78 Mustang, because that's where the block came from, so I assume it will be H.O. timing.
Update: Found the cam http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?part=CRN-130092&view=1&N=700+
No 302 came with the HO/351 firing order until 1982.
Well jeez, now I'm confused. How would I go about obtaining this information? That same exact cam pulls up for a '93 Mustang if you search it.
That's because it'll FIT in a '93 block. Doesn't mean it's the right thing to do though...
Summit's application pages aren't super accurate when it comes to stuff they themselves aren't a parent company over....
IIRC, Crane would allow you to order a certain grind, and you could specify as to which firing order you wanted for situations just like the 302 where it was changed or more than one was used.
This is going in a carbed car anyway is it not? You COULD always stab it in and get the motor together while leaving the valve covers off then spin by hand and watch what happens....
Well when spinning it it "lifts" cylinder 1 then cylinder 6, which leads me to believe it's S.O., unless I have my brain backwards.
Sure you got them numbered right?
1 is front passenger side.

Man, I don't know. I can probably go check in a few, right now there's just too darn much going on.
Current place of residence giving me the boot, places to live in short supply (especially with a garage)...what a hassle.
