do thunder birds have an 8.8 rear end
and gears from a mustang with a 8.8 rear end could fit on a 1987 t bird 5.0
This information can be found on the coolcats (http://www.coolcats.net) website and here by doing a search.
To answer the question directly, also. The only T-birds that came with an 8.8" rear were the '87 and '88 TurboCoupes.
87-88 tbirds came with 7.5" open rear diff
87-88 tbird sports came with 7.5" trac loc rear diffs (273 gears)
87-88 turbo coupe had the 8.8 rear. they use the same diff gears and trac loc as the mustangs. the axle is longer and the tcoupes have disk brakes. the automatics have 373 gears and the 5 speed cars came with 355s.
...Or 3.08
That;s what my '87 Sport had until I installed a set of 3.27 gears out of a V6 'Bird
no kiddin huh....did they offer them out for 88? makes me wonder what i have. the car seems awefully long winded though. were you able to tell much of a differance between the 3.37s and the 3.08?
I couldn't feel much difference, I only replaced 'em because the bearings went south and I had to take the rear apart anyway. I think the fact that I couldn't feel much difference was because I had also added Mac headers and 2.25" true duals at the same time, probably sacrificing a bit of low end punch on my otherwise bone stock SO engine.
so your telling me that the 8.8 -3:73 gears that i was going to buy ont fit my 87 tbird 5.0
nope...wont fit...
teehee
To clarify, 8.8 gears cannot be used in the 7.5 housing, a complete 8.8 rear assembly can be swapped into any Fox Tbird/Coug..
but theres no such thing ass a t bird 5.0 with 3:73 stock gears wright
Right. 7.5" 2.73 or 3.08 were it for 5.0 cars. 87-88 Turbo Coupes had 8.8" 3.55 (5-speed) or 3.73 (auto)
Unless it were an '88 XR7. :hick:
edit:
bleh.........Nevermind.....lol
But then that wouldn't be a Thunderbird, would it?
You would think the kid who has built the baddest Tbird on the east coast (I mean come on..he's keeping up with Mustangs) would know what rear axle is in his car....
But that's just me....
man, if he build the baddest Tbird without gears, imagine if he put 3.73's out of his buddies mustang in it...theyre out of a mustang, it must be fast
hahaha you really make me laugh ya just dont know how to let something slideeee
heres the deal man, i dont want this to come across as insults, more like constructive critisizm, i dont normally do this, but i feel that you have the potential to learn a lot if you try
-a lot of the questions you ask are somewhat questions of basic knowledge, things that a little reading would answer very easily, if you have a question, check out places like coolcats.net, its about cougars, but as you know, cougars and tbirds are the same beast, and read through it a few times, theres some great info on there thatll help out learn, and open the doors for better questions, and better replies
-typing and grammar skills. on the board, you already know, some of the people here are grammar puppies's, we do that so we can completely understand eachother, and get these technical questions out, and know what we all mean. when we cant read or comprehend the person who is asking a question, how can we help them out?
-google is your friend. some google searches can net hundreds of pages with every bit of information you could ever need, especially since in some cases, google will even search through these forums, and other forums, and find pages directly related to the info you need
-board searches are helpful also, for the same reason google searches are
i dont wanna be a dick this time, id like to see you make that car something nicer, and make it what you want, but sometimes you gotta put your own effort in before someone else puts their effort in, you have a car with a lot of potential, and youre young, just like i am, meaning you have a lot of potential to learn
...And just to add to what Shawn (Tbird232ci) said:
Don't go around with a big attitude, bragging your car up and running everyone else's cars down. Even if what you said about your car was true people do not appreciate being told their cars are junk because they're stock. Now, when you brag your car up and it becomes known that the bragging was all lies, you can expect to be taken to task over it. Running other people's cars down is one thing. Running them down when your own car is no better is another thing entirely, and you should reasonably expect to get raked over the coals for it.
The members of this message board, and indeed, the board itself, has a reputation for being very civil. Even with the few locked threads we've had, we still generally get along much better than most boards out there. We do, however, have our limits, and when you exceed those limits the board members will not hesitate to let you know. Yes, we'll bug you about grammar (hell, I could even bug Shawn for his "Grammar puppies's" statement - there should be no apostrophe :D), but we're generally very tolerant.
We've only ever had one person banned from the board, and that person was asking for it in the worst way (I never did publicly post the PM he sent me before realizing that I was a board admin, but needless to say, it would probably have incurred the wrath of George Bush himself, it was that anti-American. BTW, I'm Canadian (as was the idiot that got banned), so his anti-US rant was not only stupid, it was baseless. We put up with a lot here. Just don't push our buttons.
I've said it before. You're welcome here, and your questions, while often repetitive and redundant, are welcome as well. We were all n00bs at one point. Just don't ask a million questions, then act like a know-it-all. Doing so will only piss off those who could answer you, and will compell them not to answer at all, or answer with a sarcastic, nasty remark as has happened here.
DOH! i knew it didnt feel right as i typed it
I thought 1988 Thunderbird Sport 5.0 SO cars came with the 8.8" 3.08 ratio like the 1988 Cougar XR-7, I could be wrong though
Here's an easy way to tell...climb under the car and look...
:sorry:
