Title: Update on the TC.....
Post by: Blackout on April 29, 2009, 10:48:56 PM
So One day after telling the insurance company what i wanted to do,

I recived a check in the mail for 4,125.19 .  My title stays clean, and the car is not totaled.  No hidden agreement in the check, no funny business.  Ive decided to have parts re-finished, and I wil hang them myself.  Party this is to save money, but also to facilitate putting in my stinger fmic.  This way the parts only come off once.  Parts cost isnt too horrendous, and I have a good body shop to refinish parts lined up....it will be around 700-750 for the paprts to be sanded, blocked and shot.  they do awesome work.  This means that Ill have a bit of money left over to play with.  I know I promised pics,  and Ill have damage pics for everyone to see tommorow night.

Its not nearly as bad as Samanthas cougar was, and it didnt pop the radiator, bit it did crack the bumper sructure near the bumper energy absorbers.

BTW, does anybody know how those energy absorbers come off of the rad support?  Are they bolted from behind?  I really cant see them being welded on......

Wow.  No responses, eh?

Thats kind of funny.  I typically see lots of support from this community twards other members who have things like this happen to their t-birds/cougars..... mabey I was wrong to ecpect it for me?

I see more than one tha have like 5 pages of responses......and I get one response here... and limited response in my other thread.....thanks a lot..

Pay no attention to this post..... Im drunk and fighting with the wife AGAIN, so im not in the bes moodm.

Sucks that it happened, but it's not too terrible of damage. Definitely fixable. Just take your time and be patient (maybe put the bottle down for a little bit, also).

And you're taking things a little too personally here. Traffic was really slow on the board last night...not many threads had replies. Just because nobody replies doesn't mean they don't feel bad.

Sorry eric.  I knocked back a good portion of Jameson last night/this moring.  Sorry if I got a bit off color there.  I dont drink very often, but when I do, man it gets sloppy real quick.

BTW, i think I fuigered out how the bumper shocks attatch.  It looks like the shocks  go throgh the rad support into the frame, and are secured by a large bolt through the frame rail on each side.  So it should be just a matter of removing that bolt, and pulling the tube out.

I was suprised.....no hangover lol

Wow, you got $4125 for that damage? Almost makes me want to take a sledgehammer to the T-Bird :hick: (kidding, of course, I'd be more apt to take a sledgehammer to anyone that did damage to the Bird)

Yeah... there have been quite a few accidents lately....be safe everyone.

Belive it or not, I have everything but the  bumper cover now..... I guess its real hard to find the 87/88 TC ones in refinishable shape....Im half tempted to have them try to refinish the one on the car....but im worried it stretched in the impact.

I'm no expert, I just realized you had more pics. they're off to the side. But your bumper cover looks fine, I doubt very much that it streched. Being plastic is kinda a good thing, makes it a little plyable. I'd have your body shop take a look at it, if it's not busted I wouldn't replace it.
It's too bad you guys aren't closer to me, I have a complete TC nose for sale. The only thing I see wronge with it is the splash shield underneith has been cut off for some reason. It's a little too big for me to ship so I have it for sale locally/pick up only.

Yeah.... Im going to take it off firdt, and see if I can see any stress marks on the back, and if not Ill have it re-done.  The onlu issue I have is that it was repainted once already, with no flex additive so it would be completely stripped to refnish.

I seem to be finding them JUST out of range t drive or ship, and way too far away...lol

I knew you would make out on this one,, good job.

There is a link to a couple of header panels in the for sale in the past month or so iirc, not bad prices either.

Oh, you can thank someone else for this treasure chest...... you will find your header here, I already saw several.

Being that it's all cosmetic damage you got lucky. The bumper looks reapirable but the header not so much. I'll see if I find a header but finding a FOX in the wreaking yard is like winning the lottery ;)

Well I have the header panel, but not a bumper cover.  I might have t get it fixed.  And there is structural damage, the fiberglass bumper structure is cracked where it meets the bumper supports.  But good news on that,  I have The complete structural pieces already...

I dropped everything off at the body shop this last saturday, so im dropping by today to snap some pics.  We are reusing the existing bumper cover for now, since i cant find a decent one.  This one has a couple of holes, less than a half an inch long, but should be reuseable. It actually looks like the previous body work done had re-used the busted up bumper....the drivers side corner had an old crack in it.
The radiator support didnt move according to our measurements, and was obviously replaced at one point. All said, we might have the car back together by the weekend following this next one.  This weekend we will be putting the T3-T4 , ported E6, 65mm TB, gutted/knife edged intakes, oil lines, new injectors and the Stinger FMIC on.  If I have time, we are smoking the tail lenses too.  Ill post new pics when i have them.

I think I couldve bought 3-4 TC's for that money a few years back, it should come out nicely Im sure.  On the topic of bumper covers although you seemed to have already adressed it, you can usually force them back into shape, they are only urathane afterall and can displace a lot before they actually reach plastic deformation.
