Title: body molding- quick question
Post by: mattg on April 29, 2009, 09:49:01 AM
on 1986 cougar v8 model-  how is the narrow chrome molding held on?  the pieces that are about an inch wide and about 10 inches or so above the rocker.    is it glued or clipped?    can it be removed without ruining it?

the stuff on the door i would think is double sided tape with some clips... if you open the door and look at the lip there may be a clip there.  as far as removing it... id suggest very carefully as u can tweak and kink the chrome strip.  maybe use a fillet knife and work it along the body?  make sure to let others chime in on this as im not sure of the presence of clips

I was wondering something similar...

How is the door moulding held on the '87-'88 cars?  Are there clips on the inside of the door, or is it just 2-sided tape?  I need to take mine off to do body work and was hoping to not have to take apart the inside door panel...

Thanks!

If you are referring to 87/88 Turbo Coupes, then the answer is double stick tape. The three moldings (rear of fender, door, front of quarter) are just held on with tape. The two moldings (front of fender, rear of quarter) are held on with plastic pins and metal speed nuts.

Thanks all.  I've had the rear rear 1/4 moulding off already and it is speed nuts in the trunk.
