This seems to be an ongoing problem i see. it causes a lot of drama. someone comes in, saying they want to do something odd ball. They might just be looking for someone who's gone down the same road, if its possible, or guage what people think in general. but discussions on WHY someone wants to do something just gets out of hand. "you dont want to do that b/c this or that" responses that can be kinda harsh.. truth can hurt. but say i want to carb my engine, stepping back from EFI to carb. people will ask why. tell the OP why they shouldnt.. etc.
so maybe in the rules we should say something to the effect of "please if you're wanting to find out about something b/c your set on it, be very clear about that when posting." maybe an english major could make that clearer.
i say we get past why someone wants to do something to their cars, and on to how they could do it. instead of being a proxy of info for a modification.. we could all give input reguarding the mod and help someone and make it a community deal. sure the OP guy does the work, but he wouldnt have done it so perfectly if he didnt have 15 good guys from FTBCF.com helping him out.
do you guys get what im getting at here? we should try as a collective to streamline helping someone else with info.
this might just be in vein so... :punchballs:

EDIT: Also, we need to put the search function in people's faces. i swear we get the same questions over and over and over. just my opinion tho.
Okay here is the problem. People join and ask a question (And most times it has been asked before) but they are new to the forum or forums all together and we get irritated and throw the search function in their face. They came looking for a friendly response and get a slap in the face? Not cool if you ask me.
People are opinionated and it appears to me that EVERYONE on here thinks if you build a V8 car it needs to be an EFI car. You'll have that, this is part of being on a forum you WILL get disagreements.
Things arent that harsh around here. And when they are it is all in good intentions (most of the time). I try not to post too much on local boards because of this though. There are so many people that are ignorant to the fact of Mustangs are not the only Fox body parts fit on.
Maybe its just me but I dont take too much on here as insults to my ideas. I mean look, Im putting manual steering on a DD street car just because I can. Im sure a lot of people are thinking, thats a waste, pointless, WHY?
I dont think that will ever go away. My first post was about a body kit..... Yeah. I was just excited that I finally realized what I had stumbled upon (found FTBCF before but was before I actually got my car and didnt know what this was). I can deal with new members asking questions that need to be searched, but people who have been here for some time it is a little irritating. I was once like that also, and we all have our slip ups.
Yup we're definitely a nice bunch and all pretty tolerant of each other....shoot look at all the stupid stuff I do....havent been run off by a mob with pitchforks.......yet!:beatyoass:
I agree with both sides of the coin, and here's why:
We'll use the case of efi vs carb, as it's the one that really comes to mind.
We ALL know the tech and whatnot that efi has over carbs, and we also know that carbs are easier to tune on a budget, or w/o expensive aftermarket electronics.
In the very end, it's YOUR car, and nobody else's, so do what you most want to it..after all, isn't that what basically hot rodding is all about??
And I also agree with the tech issue of it. If it someone wants to throw a carb on their 5.0 HO and drop into their car, then let's tell them the best ways we know of to do it, instead of the generic "EFI is the only way to go blah blah". After all, we're here to help fellow enthusists, are we not? ;):D
I totally agree with AC on the subject of getting a answer to the question and not a response as to why you are doing it.many times I will have a question, but do not post it,because I know this very thing will come into play.
As far as the search function, I disagree with "throwing it in there face". you can spend ours using the search funtion and still not get the answer you are looking for..............JMO.
This message board has an unusually friendly and welcoming atmosphere. People come here with questions and they do get a friendly response.
If you actually think it's like that here, go spend some time on TCCoA or The Corral Forums and draw a comparison. I've met some incredibly pretentious people on other message forums who would otherwise be totally cool in person. They have the "Internet toughguy" affliction and our members lack that trait.
You are right but I have seen it done on here before. I think some of us aren't as friendly as others sometimes. I'm not calling anyone out or anything just pointing out something I have seen. Yeah, I've seen other boards and don't want to be involved with them for that exact reason.
We have all been the new person at least once.... think back and try to remember how you wanted to be treated. Easy enough.
I can see both sides of this coin as well... and I have been on both sides of the coin in the past on another site. Extremeskins.com. It is a similar forum to this except it deals with the Washington Redskins. People on there are just asses. They treat the new people like .. always throw the search function in their face, discredit their threads, posts, and always question why they started them. I do not go to that site anymore, though I am still a Redskin fan... and I followed the rules. They are just quick to pounce on other people and it is a very undesirable place to spend time.
This forum is a breath of fresh air. Everybody is helpful, and you are respectfully dealt with when you mess up.
Keep in mind that some people have never been on such a forum as this. Some people are very much less technical than others.
I like the way this board is handled, and my hats off to the administrators and moderators.
Just my 2 cents....
This forum DOES have the best guys overall (and girls).Great people from all walks of life willing to help.
I agree this is a friendly forum. I think its probably because we are such a small group of enthusiast that we know we have to stay close and be cool with each other.
I have recently started going over to the corral forums just to check out stuff for my s197. You should all go there every once in awhile if you want to appreciate this forum more. There are some really pen 15y dudes over there...
x2! Guys are different over there. We are spoiled here.
Very true. I remember when I first joined and had lots of questions about catylytic converters, and exhaust, and locating my pcv valve. I thought, "Man these guys must think I'm a douche....." Then i remember all the very helpful reply's I got, and I though (and still think) this board is the shiznit. Everyone's (mostly) so tight knit, like a big family. Never seen anything like it, especially on the net. The people who really care about the cars and helping others with them, usually stay and you see them here all the time, and the ass's come and go like a cloudy day. I don't even have a fox anymore (:mad:) and i still spend most of my internet time here.....
Before you say the search button should be mandatory, go over to mp3car.com. The forums on there are brutal. Even if you answer a question for someone right you will get pms of people bashing you because you didn't tell them to search. Go to the newb section and you'll see what I mean. Most people don't even make there first post till about 6 months in.
A board like that isn't worth joining....
The only times I ever see this kind of thing is when the inevitable question comes back over and over again, (I want to Twin Turbo my 2.3L), or when a select few get the BS flag out in the Rides section. That, to me, gets way out of hand sometimes. Once one person thinks the kid is lying about something, the accusations fly and the mob attacks. Then they say it's because they were 'soiled' by one bad apple (Fila). One kid was a lying sack of , and now there's this attitude that anyone could be.
Typically, though, I don't think this is the way we come across to new posters. Especially ones who ask sensible questions and stick around long enough to be helped in a way they know they wouldn't get on any other board.
sorry i think my wording was wrong about the search function. im not used to someone actually saying, althought i've seen it, the "why dont you try the search function" posts. so when i say throw it in their face, i mean make it bigger lol something that snags the attention. I think the reason this place is a nice place to chat is the fact we're small. I was apart of a small car forum before this one, and it was the same. mostly friends and less assholes to start flame wars.
We dont let anyone either.
