Hey guys. My name is Jon, I just bought a 1985 TC with 5.0 conversion (March 09). I had an 88TC and a 95SC when I was younger (20's, I'm almost 40 now) and never forgot about those cars. I even had an 88 BMW 635csi. Some of you might be aware that there was some design inspiration between the Thunderbird aero and BMW 6 series cars.... like it or not. :)
I wanted to introduce myself since I'll probably be around here quite a bit searching for advice. I've primarily been a carbureted Ford guy for years, I own two Gran Torinos. I'm really excited about having a Fox/EFI/5.0 car. Finally something that is well-supported by the aftermarket.
Some of you might recognize my screen name from http://www.fordmuscle.com. I am an owner-operator over there and plan to document through pictorial, ALL my upgrades to my new Thunderbird. Anyhow, I already got some great tips from this forum and CoolCats.net. Gathering all the gear required for the 11" brake conversion now.
Cheers,
Jon
Welcome
Welcome, Jon U have a very nice looking :birdsmily: any chance you might have a few more pics of it ? :poke::headbang:
Welcome. TC looks really clean. Youll like it here.
It is nice, but to a point we run out of aftermarket support. Most things have been cured with the know how of guys around here though.
CoolCats is your new best friend. You can find almost anything there. If it isnt there its on here.
Thanks guys. I'll work on getting some more pics. Sorry DVP, I was referring to "parts" when I said "support".
Welcome! I'm in Nevada too.
Yeah me too. I was just referring to Cougar/T-Bird specific parts. Things that are make just for our cars, repo body parts, things like that. We are lucky enough to have the Mustang in the Fox family or we would be SOL. Like you said the support is defiantly there for the 5.0 though:hick:
Because I know what it takes to run a forum AND because the tech help I already got from here and CoolCats, I made my $50 donation to CoolCats.
Welcome. you can find parts here, if not Vinnie will get them.
Beware of that CoolCats dude...I hear he's a real troublemaker.
Great to have you on board, Jon! Your tech article (http://"http://www.fordmuscle.com/forums/showthread.php?t=484710") on replacing struts is AMAZING. It should be required reading for all.
BTW, did you find out whose car was in the movie 'Gran Torino'? It looks like yours LOL. That was an incredibly powerful movie that, again, should be required viewing by everyone.
Thanks Eric. Yeah, I plan to ratchet up the complexity level on the stuff I document on the car. My approach is always from a guy who's not incredibly mechanically experienced but wants to do it himself.... that's me. So the 11" brake upgrade will be a perfect next step for "pictorializing" on the bird.
I swear, I painted my Torino before that movie came out. Don't know who that one belongs too, some guy in the Detroit area.
Cheers.
Yeah SCREW that guy!!!!! I've got a lotta CHOICE words for that guy........not to be trusted. Not to be trusted running a lemonade stand!!!! :rollin:
Very nice looking Bird.................welcome !!!
Very nice. I'm sure chuck would like the way it looks, but maybe dog on you for throwing a v-8 in it.
Looks like a keeper to me. Welcome!
Welcome to the forum. It's one of the best if not THE best.
T-bird looks nice :D
Your car remindes me that I need to get off my butt and re-finish the TC Snowflake wheels I have so I can get them on my T-bird.
welcome aboard
Seems like a great group. Thanks for the welcome.
Welcome... almost 40 eh??? Punk...
Nice lookin but would be better with the 2.3T but each to there own! Almost 40 that means I can still trust you! I'm gonna have to amend my rule very soon though or I won't be able to trust myself!
That is a beautiful car! Very nice. Welcome to the board. Enjoy!
Brian
Welcome to the group. Don't suppose that is the one that was on C/L a while back, I think in the Sacramento area? Looks sweet.
Welcome,
That CoolCats guy is OK,
just worry about his little inner voice that pop out from time to time ;)
Lots of nice Tbirds/Cougars here. Yes, Eskimo.... I picked this up in CA gold country (Diamond Springs) from CL. It was a Northern CA car. Now a Northern NV car. Been driving to work everyday, great having it all registered, smogged, and insured now in NV. I'm very proud to be in it during the morning commute and drive home.
This is my first project car that just needs a lot of TLC and bolt-on upgrades. I'm used to the complete resurrections, so this one is gonna be fun.
Welcome! Sharp car, very sharp. I think an 87/88 TC hood on there would help set it off. My $.02. That's one good thing about this forum. We are happy to share our opinions even when we weren't asked. That's just the kind of guys we are. :D
Welcome aboard man. As the others told you, when you run into a brick wall on the T-bird just ask someone on here. You will get all the help you need!
That car in the movie was bought new in Springfield Missouri and stayed in that area and restored in around 2000 and then sold on ebay and was bought by by a company called Salt City Classic and Muscle from Utah. Then Larry Stelling bought it to use in the movie for Clint Eastwood and apparantly Clint wants them to hang onto it!
All according to an article in the Fairlane club of America's magazine.
Hi there, Welcome!
salt city classics is selling a 1987 thunderbird with 45,000 miles on it for $9,500 I think. I posted a craigslist ad a couple of weeks ago.
