Is the 1994-96 Ford Mustang V-6 exactly the same motor as a 1987-88 Thunderbird/Cougar motor? I'm unaware if there's very many differing intricacies..

If it is....what's the most inexpensive power adder outside of a cold air intake you can do to one of these motors? (inexpensive being...less than 300 dollars, let's say)

Yes. It's the same engine, but has a more modern EEC-V computer with Mass Air.
Best bang for the buck would be true duel exhaust system..but its only going to give you maybe 10hp, and thats if you remove the catalytic converters.

The 87 T-Bird V6 is significantly different than the 88 V6. The 87 has CFI and tin valve covers (the tops of the heads are shaped differently), and the block is not machined for a balance shaft.

There are some minor differences between the 88 and the 89 and newer engines as well, but for all intents and purposed a '94-'95 would be a drop-in affair. Accessory and bracket mounting may be different between the T-Bird and Mustang engines.
