Title: AOD advise
Post by: robertotoro on March 31, 2009, 02:12:04 PM
hi to everyone:

I'm practically new in the forum and I really appreciate your help.  I have a 88 Tbird with a 5.o and a AOD....my question is if a automatic transmission from a 87 Ford Econoline could fit mi Tbird?.....I know that is better a T5 conversion, but in the mean while, I can resolve with another AOD until I find the donor.

Thanks in advance for your help.

In short if your van trans has a 14 bolt AOD pan you can probably make it fit. You'll probably need more info on the van trans to get a good answer on how though.

The main problems with AOD interchanges are,Tailshaft length,Number of spiral cuts on output shaft that drive the speedo and possibly the starter bolt up and for sure the linkage. As long as the length is right you can get around most of the other stuff:D
