Title: Stereo Replacement (non-Fox related, 1999 Explorer)
Post by: fordman3 on March 31, 2005, 01:33:37 PM
Hello,
I hope you'll forgive me for posting this non-T-bird/Cougar question on the board, but I thought somebody here might be able to help.  I've got a '99 Explorer with the factory Mach sound system with the amp, factory sub, etc., and with the factory 6-CD changer.  Well, after my 3-yr old daughter filled the cassette slot with pennies, the display seemed to go out.  I'm told this is a common problem, toddlers notwithstanding.  But every now and then it pops very loudly, the power will cut on and off by itself, and the volume will get erratic.  Anyway, I have a Pioneer CD deck laying around that I could put in, but my question is, if I want to use the factory wiring, is an aftermarket deck compatible with Ford's amp/sub system, and can I communicate with the factory CD changer?  I've priced the replacement factory Mach decks, and most people are still getting $150+ for them used, and many of them have dead displays, too.  Can somebody give me some advice?  Thanks.

crutchfield (http://crutchfield.com) should have a stereo adaptor. im not sure if you can use the factory cd changer with the pioneer head unit though.
