My apologies if this has been covered before, I did search the forum before I posted.....
I got an 86 elan with a all steel 302 and AOD.
I currently have V6 front springs and want to change to TC springs (that I already have) for 2 reasons 1-ride height, 2-better handling. I will also be updating the front sway bar to the TC.
My delima is as follows. The V6 springs that were in the car were broke, roughly have a coil. The TC springs that I want to put in the car are broke, approx. 2 coils. How much drop can I expect by using the TC springs with the 2 coils removed. I had 2 3/8" from the tire to the fender before.
Thanks.
Why would you even consider installing broken springs???
I have the orignal TC springs in mine and it's about 3/4" lower than a stock TC... This is with a aluminum headed 5.0 and AOD, all accessories including AC...
I agree. Springs are actually not that bad in price, and it's not all that safe to use broken ones...they make break again.
If the spring broke it broke for a reason, spring for new ones.
The reason the springs broke is due to ford's y lower control arm design that holds an inch of water for 20 years.
I will price out new springs and go from there.
Thanks,
I agree. I installed 87 tbird v8 springs in my car, which only had about 1 inch broken of. It was because it was sitting in the water. And the car sits very low in the front!!! I didn't think it would make a difference but it does. I swapped engines and transmissions. The car has an 87 5.0 with 87 aod tranny and the slightly broken 87 springs. Buy new ones, its not worth it!
