Turns out I managed to get one of the few 5.0 T-Birds without a locker rear end.
Too bad you're not closer, I know of a nice TC axle.
There are plenty that came with the 5.0 and an open diff. A locker is most likely more rare....
Theres a guy out here in Vegas who is parting out a 87 TC and wants 150 for the rearend. I think its an auto car, so it should have a TL with 3.73s
Don't feel bad. Mine doesn't have TL and I can't find one TC around my area either.
Better a one wheel peel than a no wheel peel!
So far I've only spun wheels in the dirt and on cement so far. Always leaves two nice black marks though.
So wouldnt that be your locker??? I have an xr7 with the tl axel, and when i brake stand, or powerbrake, only the passenger side spins, but once the car is moving the other breaks free, but i slso need a trans,...
Thats what I was thinking too....Non TL, two marks, Are you pushing the fronts and leaving skid marks?
Nah not a big deal just switch it over at some point.
ONLY the '87-'88 Sport and TC had the Traction Lock as std, was optional as was the 5.0 on Base & LX models... Very few of those would have had a Traction Lock differential...
I'm talking about just givin' it some gas, not brake standing. Now I'm confused. How do I tell whether I have TL (besides the door tag)?
Jack up the back of the car, spin one wheel by hand and see which direction the opposite wheel spins.
Same direction = trac loc
Can I just straight in swap the assemblies if I find a 7.5 or 8.8 locker?
Yes sir!. Mustang rears will also mount up, as well as Mark VII. Mustang will be narrower, Mark VII wider.
Best place to look when you come up with an idea of what might work is http://www.coolcats.net/info/
Eric did a great job putting together the site. Helps all of us at one point or another. I use it almost everytime I do a project on my car. Plus it helps owners find the forum. Which some of the thanks for the forum can go to him too!
So you can spin both wheels while moving? Then you have trac loc.
An open rear, (non TL, One wheel peel) only sends power to one rear wheel. Trac loc, engages both wheels when the power wheel starts to loose traction. Also give it more street manners vs having both wheels push you around turns.
My car locks when it wants to. With the new exhaust, and minus all the audio i used to have, it locks a lot more and easier. You should be able to tell by the load on the motor and drop in RPMs when it locks.
My car used to rev up when spinning, then lock, RPMs dropped down and grab. Now, on a good day, with my little 225/50s it revs up, locks, drops a little then back up til it shifts 2nd.
I love my car!:burnout:
I think trac locs kinda suck!!! i have one in my bird and my stang and with too much power they just dont perform well!!! I have a extra trac-loc laying around with some 3.55s if any takers!!! Out of 88 TC
meh just weld the spidyers
Theres a bright idea....:punchballs: :toilet:
FTW. Guaranteed two tire inferno. Permanently.
I've never had a car with a locker. Out of 7 cars, I'd say the odds are that not alot of them had one...
Let me know man, I'll take that off your hands in a heartbeat
