Title: Rally
Post by: CootersXR7 on March 23, 2009, 03:29:24 PM
I finished Third in my class, at the most recent RallyCross, out of 5 vehicles behind a RX7 and a RX2. Out of all the RWD Cars, I was 5th behind yet another Rotary (RX8) and a Brand New Challenger R/T. The other vehicles that I finished ahead of were: Porsche 968, Porsche 911, Crown Vic PI, and a Tacoma Pickup.

So much fun, a little more work (rear suspension sorted, rear brakes, and exhaust are the plans for the rest of this year unless the car breaks) and some driving improvements should put me right in with the top RWD cars as I was only about 3% out of first place for RWDs and I only hit 3 cones this time.

Two of the front flaps got torn off....again (this time during the parade lap); I need to either down gauge to 1/8" HDPE or take the length of them up a bit. I plan to use a couple of these images (and any chips) to help determine how high I can go and still more or less protect the body sides (not that this car is at all a show car). There actually is a third front flap that made it through the event. You can see a portion in one of the images under the car. It is formed, and basically continues the plastic wheel-well liner down, then rearward, and then has a downturned portion to ward off offending rocks. This flap is the most important (to me) as it protects where the fuel lines make the turn up into the engine compartment.

Again, entirely too much fun. Any of you contemplating the death of a parts car (like me, but not the car in these pics) should consider other things that could be done with it. Lately I've been thinking NA 2.3 with Side-Draft Webers, roll cage, lexan windows and no interior for my parts car to turn it into a M2 (modified) Rally-X car. But that will probably never happen.

Later,

Indeed.

The Drive Side Light is a Bosch Driving light. There exists one event, in November, that runs at night. I slapped that driving lamp in there just before that event last year. I have several Rally Lights, but I haven't made up my mind if I really want a set on that car or not as I don't really ever drive it at night.
