Didn't suspect a thing, but my laptop had a puppy:
lol...............is it a he or a she?
Dunno what shag it is, but I've already decided I don't like it.
The pros:
- Light weight and small size make it very portable
- Surprisingly peppy for a 1.6 GHz processor with 1GB RAM
- Runs cool and is quiet (unlike the Gateway, which has noisy fans running all the time)
- 160GB HDD is actually 10GB larger than the one in the Gateway
Cons:
- Keyboard too small to be functional
- Small display is very clear and sharp, but 1024X600 resolution doesn't cut it. WAY too much scrolling
- Windows XP Home - I felt like I was taking a step backward (yes, I am among the few who like Vista)
- No optical drive. I'd gladly accept an extra 1/4" of thickness to be able to watch DVD's on it. Would make it much more useful
- No modem. Sometimes, while traveling (like when I'm at the cottage) I have to use dialup.
- It's actually TOO light - just the weight of the power cord tries to pull it off the table
Summary: It was neat to play with in the store, and I thought I'd enjoy not toting 12 pounds of full-size laptop around, but I've come to the conclusion that the small size and portability just aren't worth the tradeoffs. My sausage-sized mechanic's fingers don't find their way about that bitty keyboard very easily or accurately, the 1024X600 resolution of that 10" display is simply not enough, you don't realize how much you miss an optical drive until you go without one, and it's got no modem, making it useless for me to travel with. Having only used it a few hours I'm already fairly certain I'll be returning it to the store.
To be honest, when I bought it (it was a spontaneous purchase) I was unsure whether I'd like it and made it a point to make sure I'd be able to return it. I guess when you are looking for an "out" before you even buy you should know it's not going to be a smooth romance...
BTW, I made this post and the original one with the Gateway. There's another sign the relationship is doomed, when I don't even want to play with the new toy at every opportunity
thats the same reasons i didnt get one no modem or dvd drive.keyboard is set up more for a kid in grade school if you ask me.
Dude, I didn't like my Acer either. It didn't perform nearly as well as it should have, for the specs, and the HD grenaded in a little over a year. That'll teach me to do 3D CAD with integrated graphics. Now my Asus, that's a nice machine. I'll buy one again when this one bites the biscuit (all laptops do in time).
I don't have one of those but I do have a flybook A33i I bought used that I've had for a couple years. Similar in size and resolution, a bit slower since it's a couple years older and has tablet capabilities.
It's a fun toy and I love it for traveling, but I almost never use it when I'm at home. I have tiny hands and find it to be a pain to type on sometimes. I'd recommend a 12" lightweight laptop for anyone looking for something small. The tiny pcs are cool but if you're trying to do much of any work on them they get old.
I don't care for it. I hate the auto minimize thing when you touch too high on the scrolling pad. Uses alot of ram, but now computers have alot more so it dosen't really matter I guess. Other then that its okay, but I'm really picky.
