You'll need the 88 only. The 87 still had the CFI 3.8.

Yes it CAN be done that way, but it will be enough work to just swap over one that is exactly the same let alone having to do some minor rewiring. Direct plug and play requires an 88 harness.

You must have torched a whole lot of wires to pull everything out of the car. Wish I was closer to help out man...

I just need the one long harness that's on the pic... Wich harness is that? The one on the pic goes from the dash and plugs nto some connectors under the hood... That is what I need

What you need to find is a good junkyard that will let you pull an entire dash harness like the one you're looking for. That was the inner harness bc it has the fuse block on it.

I'll get pics of my '88 3.8 wiring to you sometime today, BTW...what gauges do you have? base digital, or full digital?
(Base digital just has the digi speedo, full digi has all the gauges in a digital readout..)
The reason I ask...I think there's some slight repinning to do if you try to use one harness with the other kind of gauges, and whatnot.
The stuff I have is for a base digital cluster dash, with manual heater, and non premium sound.
Is this what you have in your car?
( I don't wanna send/sell you stuff that won't work) I'll get you some good pics later today..:D

Sorry 17needhelp...I don't have the harness you need.

Here's the differences Manual: (http://i94.photobucket.com/albums/l110/fordtruckfreeek/vehicle%20pics/other%20vehicle%20stuff/100_1038.jpg)
Premium sound will be indicated either on the speaker grilles in the doors, or if you have a factory eq.
Now the bad... It appears that both of the '88 dash harnesses I have aren't suitable. The one has some cut wires that I took out to add to the other harness when I converted to the buttstuffog cluster in the white car. I'd sell you the lengthened one, but it's been repinned for buttstuffog gauges...
Sorry man, but I do have the engine harness if you want or need it.

17needhelp, I think you need a complete parts car. Sounds like you buried yourself by making a mistake.

If I still have my harnesses off my car how hard would it be to convert the lenghtned one back? And what would I have to do?

You would have to re-pin it for your base digi cluster

that isnt that hard is it.. isnt that just re connecting those two harnesses that go into the back of the digi speedometer?

Yeah, basically it would be. Tell ya what, if it's warm this weekend, I'll pull the dash harness from the white car, repin the wires to the cluster as they were originally, take lots of pics, and get it sorted out. Bad thing is, I sold my base digi cluster awhile back, so I have no way of testing it to make sure it would be back as it was.
It's not a huge job to repin the wires, there was only 4 or 5 to do IIRC.
There's a digram on CoolCats.net that shows how to do this. I can repin 'em, or if you feel comfortable doing it, I'll send it to you as-is, your choice. Either/or is fine with me.

what does IIRC mean? Sorry, you guys always say it and I don't know what it means.
and I have the harness from the computer that goes across the firewall and plugs into the dash harness.

is it for an 88 3.8 v6? is it for a digital speedometer? and does it have the fuse block attached and the rubber piece that leads the wires through the firewall into the hood?

It is the section from the passenger side kick panel with computer which runs across the firewall and comes to the dash plugs. It was for a car with a digital speedometer. It does not have the fuse block attached.
