Title: whats it worth?
Post by: KidCat on March 17, 2009, 08:36:14 AM
just curious as to how much my cougar may be worth.

its basically in good condition.  small minor scratch here and there.  perfect interior no tear, rips, or stains. 1987 cougar ls V8 5.0  with 44,000 miles.  tinted windows, aftermarket cd player.  (still have stock radio)

went to Cici's last night to take my lil brother out. and a guy came up and asked me if it was for sale. I told him not at the moment but he offered me $4,000  for it.

how much would this be worth?

From what i've seen on 87 and 88 cougars 4000 would be worth it.

If you want to get rid of the car, you'd better take the $4000.00 for it.Offers like that don't come around very often.

Without seeing the car in person, or even pics, I think you should have been watching 87 Cougar tail lights driving away.  44K miles sounds REALLY low, so I may back pedal, but without the visuals, I'll say you should have jumped on the offer....

If he was serious, offering and buying is different.
But yeh sounds good.

I couldnt get out of the car fast enough if I was offered that. Of course if he was serious is a whole seperate issue.

I have some updated pictures, i'll try to post them soon.

the cd deck is from kenwood,  my uncle got it for me and it was priced at i believe $300  has the USB hook up and everything, bluetooth, remote, custome equalizer etc.

but like i said before.  To the best of my knowing.  the only person to own this car before me was a lil old lady who used it as practicaly her grocery getter car.

The guy that offered me $4,000 was the second guy in 1 day.  the first guy offered me $3,000 or $3,500 for the stereo to go along with it.

I don't know about some on here, but I wouldn't take $4000 for my Cougar.

What's it worth?  Whatever you and the buyer decide upon...

Ding.  Ding.  Ding.  We have a winner.

People are always asking me how much their "collector" car is worth. I tell them to put it on evilbay for a week with an opening bid of $1 and a huge reserve (or no reserve) and then they'll know what it was worth that week in time. The next week it may be twice as much or half as much, but at least you will have a true "offer". Bottom line though, is exactly what V8Demon says, it's worth whatever you and the buyer decide.

That may be because you have way more into than that though. Personally, I don't have a ton of money into my car, I would dump it for 4,000. These cars, even low mileage aren't worth a ton of money. Not many people recognize them as anything, not classic, certainly not antique, and not anything unusual. Don't get me wrong, I love my t-bird, but its not a car worth dumping tons of money into, yeah it may be fun to drive and I may like it, but essentially its a waste. If I ever need money, Im certainly not going to be able to sell my t-bird for a lot.

I could sell my 72 442 though, and get a pretty penny for it. I don't know, personally I would take the $4,000. It may be a long time before someone offers your that kind of money for it again. I personally don't think they will ever be worth a lot.

Yes.
It's reliable to boot.
I would not hesitate to drive this car over 100 miles from home right now.
Oh wait.... http://www.foxtbirdcougarforums.com/showpost.php?p=261620&postcount=6

This car would make it cross country as it sits right now...as long as you stop for gas when you had to ;)

I still think your Cougar looks strange with 10 Hole wheels on it.

Until I find a good deal on something else, they're gonna stay.  I had a bead on some old school Centerlines, but they were the same width...I want an 8 inch wide rim; 15,16, or 17 inch diameter....

I've got Mustang Phone dial wheels on mine so I guess mine looks weird too. I totally hear you on the bigger wheels.

I think its safe to say he was throwing a number out that he hadn't confirmed he could do. I'm sure someone on here would love your car very much as they are our favorite after all.

Title: Here they are, sorry about that.
Post by: KidCat on March 30, 2009, 04:46:10 PM
lol ya i guess pics would help.  Sorry about that guys.  here they are. sorry if they're a bit small, i'll try to figure out how to resize them after work.
as of march 30, 2009  the car sits at 45282.7 miles.

recent things done to the car since i've had it are.
full tune up.  all stock hoses removed and replaced with brand new ones.  brakes replaced along with rear brake shoes and rear brake cylenders.    aftermarket kenwood CD deck ($300+ value) and windows have been tinted.  very dark but within legal limits in the state of Arkansas.

** I do have the original radio if wanted.**

the car is fully loaded, Power everything.  excellent condition except for VERY minor small scratches and small hail spot on hood.

the hail spots are only visable if you look at the car form an angle.  but other than that, you'd never know they were there.

Again sorry if the pics are small, I'll fix that after work if i have time.

Thanks for all your help everyone.
