I was looking for a daily driver, and found a 87-88 Tbird at a house near me. At first I thought it was a Lincoln Mark 7 because of the trunk (looks as if it has a spare tire in the trunk). I got to talking to a friend and turns out the car is a thunderbird that was special ordered, and the guy doesn't want to sell because it is rare (the car is covered in pin sap and doesn't run).
Anyone know if this really is rare? How about which 5.0 it had?
Get a pic. need to see this!
It's an aftermarket replacement trunklid, probably fiberglass. Several companies made them available to dealerships when new. That is all that is "special" about it.
But photos would help.
Pics!

If you had ever seen one of these you might not want to see a picture , they used to turn up on 72-76 birds and never looked right there either
Was it anything like this?

even better for the rear spring sag!!!
No, I know what he's talking about, the subject has come up on this forum before. Back in the day there was an aftermarket trunklid available for Thunderbirds that mimicked the "hump" trunklid of the Mark VII. It was fiberglass, and it was pug ugly.
It is not a special order car. It may have been a dealer-added thing, much like many dealerships of the time added GFX kits, but it was not factory ordered that way. If it's even got a 5.0 in it, it's the same lo-po 5.0 that all other factory V8 Fox Birds had. Given the condition you say the car is in, I'd say the trunklid is the only thing even remotely "valuable", and even then only because it (the trunk lid, not the car) is a rare piece of T-Bird history. They were rare for a reason, though...
I remember those pimp looking things. not a good look. It was the "I wish I could afford a Lincoln" look
Yeah, made even funnier by the fact that many Mark VII owners would pay good money to have a trunk lid that looked like a Thunderbird's :hick:
Here you go...found my photos of one. It's a 1983-86 lid that I saw at Carlisle in '05. Dude was trying sooooo hard to get me to buy it (@ $100) but I don't think you could have paid ME to take it...

Honestly, I like it. If it would fit an 88...
Seen plenty of them....Never liked it.
Please post the photo of a car with trunk like this)
Besides the trunk on EricCoolCats photo don't look like fiberglass?
It is fiberglass, Tapkin - look at how the support ribs blend into it on the underside, you can see it's as though it's all one piece. You can also see some raw, unfinished fiberglass on the top left of the underside shot
