I've never seen a concept car at a dealership before. How did they get their paws on this thing?
Check out the underbody shots.
Its not a driving car. and anyway if it did it would have an X VIN meaning its not registerable.
Of course it doesn't drive; the pictures alone prove that. That wasn't my point.
It was my understanding that Ford (and the other big manufacturers) keep their concepts away from the general public unless they're showing them off to promote future projects. This is assuming that they don't destroy them immediately after the unveiling.
doesnt look like a factory built concept ford can do better than that. the car is made of plywood and erector set.
Gilmore Car museum has a Cadillac concept just like that. Those don't always get destroyed.
They turn up at auctions from time to time.
That is indeed a real concept (I remember it). My guess would be that it was sold in the charity sale of a bunch of concept Fords a while ago (the '92 Mustang Mach 3 was also sold in that auction).
That'd be a cool body to drop onto a Town Car frame. It'd require some serious work, of course (such as making real doors for it) but it'd make a cool car. Not at $100k though...
*EDIT* Here's a link to an article about the auction:

Times must be tough, he was asking $180,000.... http://www.hemmings.com/classifieds/carsforsale/lincoln/sentinel/819937.html
Waste of money if you ask me.
Big waste of money to me also, but it would definitly be worth it for some hardcore collectors i guess.
Given that it didn't make the top ten money wise in the Ford auction I cited, and that the bottom of the top ten sold for less than $70k, I'd say he'd do well very well to get $100k. That's a lot of scratch for a fancy bit of foam and plywood.
That Bullitt concept front end has apparently given design cues to the GT500....
we also call them nut collector.because they have to be nuts .
Would be neat it it worked but that ain't gonna happen with a pricetag that high. What a kook
Since when do Concepts not even have interiors?
Since it just sits on a rotating platform at say the New York Auto Show where people can't touch it, so they can gauge people's reaction if it gets good press and good reactions usually some of those things come into play down the line. Obviously the hadn't gotten down to designing interior yet at that point.
It's my favorite Lincoln concept car from the day I saw it when I was online for the first time in 1996 :) From what I found over the years there were two of these cars and one was fully driveable!
Sentinel show car was black at first (on NAIAS I guess) and than replainted grey/graphite for other auto shows.
But there's another black Sentinel probably based on Town Car long wheelbase frame. It's almost the same, but eg. center section of hood doesn't go all way down, front bumper has a little diffrent shape, marker lights are different and everything actually works in this car :) I had a chance to talk about this concept with a guy who drove it around that parking lot and took pics (lost contact now). It's owned by unknown Lincoln collector. I also found a story that it was built for Jack Telnac, but it's unconfirmed.
And I'm sure that if this one will be for sale it is worth $100K or even more, don't you think? Of course only if it has Modular DOHC under the hood ;)
i want to say that around the same time Chrysler made a concept that was similar but my mind fails me
If you think of Chrysler Phaeton, it was in 1997.
Yep! That was the one! Great minds think alike I guess.
I wonder if they will air up the rear tire for an extra fee...
100k is stupid, but the fact is there is no shopping around.
Concept are cool but if I am going to spend a stupid amount of money on a car i will never drive I would look at something like this
(http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/nn65/cougar86_89/0609cr_12_z2006_detroit_autoramabea.jpg)
Now I would need a lot more than 100,000 to even think about trying to buy any of Ed Roth's cars, but if Im going to spend money on a decoration I rather it have history and meaning.
$100K for the driver MAY be worth it to someone, but $100K for a shell seems a little crazy to me. Obviously, I am not a rich guy with unlimited disposable income, but even rich guys like to think they are getting a good value. In today's market, an empty shell isn't worth $100K. My $.02.
