Title: Body kit for 1988 turbocoupe
Post by: 88turboeric on March 10, 2009, 07:00:25 PM
Hey guys,

I have an McK body kit for my 88 turbocoupe and plan to start making my own with fiberglass (using the McK kit as a mold) soon as no company makes it for our cars anymore. I just want to see how many people are interested to see how much materials to order. I don't know what I will charge yet, more details to come...

Pics can be seen here until I get my pics up. (The red car)

Best bet would be to only get enough to re pop 2 or 3 at first. You should be able to see those After that I would take orders and do batches of #?

A lot of people have talked about doing this and I cant remember one that came though yet.

Pics are going to be a must.

I plan on doing this soon. I think I'm going to order enough supplies for 5 kits and start from there. I just want to make sure there is interest before I start, and there will be LOTS of pics.

it all depends on what you think it may cost. Try to come up with a preliminary estimate, many of us would like them i'm sure, but if the price is extreme, many of us may not be able to afford them.

Nice kit,but I've always liked the natural lines of the car by itself.

I have to agree. There are very few body kits I would ever get. I do like the one Baxo's Cougar has on it but I'm sure that is pretty rare.

Sorry about that,I didn't want to ruin anyone's "moment".LOL..I just think that most body kits add a boxy look to a car that isn't built to look like that.Sharp, squared of lines don't really mesh well with the lines of these cars. Some of the rocker pieces look alright, but the front and rear pieces don't match up to the rest of the car.

Disclaimer: This is only my own opinion, and not the opinion of those affiliated with this forum or any other entity.LOL.

Oh i dont have that one anymore. I sold that car to RJ (1 WLD BRD) he sped it years ago, he sold the gfx kit to bearmax last year. That kit has swapped more owners than I can count.

True enough. if you want official names, its the Xenon kit..
There is a rarer kit called the Kamei kit.. 83 heritage has that on his car. I personally like it better. Both however are discontinued and very hard to find.

I think the cost would be prohibitive, But if you can pull it off there is probably a market for it.

Here are some pics of the McK kit that I'll be using for a template. I need to clean it up still but just got it all measured up so I can order some materials. The kit is a total of 8 seperate pieces, 3 in the front, 3 in the back and the 2 sides. I don't think shipping will be too overwhelming as I can fit everything in a box about 6 1/2 foot by 2' by 2'.

Are those made of plastic or fiberglass? I have a set of side skirts which look identical to those and they are a wierd rubber material like the bumpers on the car.
