Title: column shift linkage adjustment
Post by: 20thanniver-ls on March 08, 2009, 02:08:21 PM
What is the best way to adjust the column shift linkage in an AOD? I took apart the linkage only from the bracket that bolts to the frame, and when i went to set it back, it is shifting backwards. I set it manually in nuetral, with both linkage and column shifter in position, but when i go to shift the car it shifts from park to nuetral without moving the linkage, like its in drive. When i check underneath the car, the linkage is still in park. I dont understand this . It has got to be one of the most annoying things ive ever messed with. Has anybody got any ideas or ever had this happen to you?:punchballs: :punchballs: :punchballs: :punchballs: :punchballs:

It should be adjustable at the trans. Or you got a whole lot of play in the linkage somewhere.

Also make sure you didn't accidentally reverse the bracket when it was apart. ;)

The bracket wasnt all the way apart, just the two bolts on the frame.

Yea, that seems to be the problem. I had it right after i put on my headers/h-pipe, then it sounded like it was leaking at the collector so i took the linkage apart, tightened the  on the headers, and started with the linkage and now hit this snag. I do have a lot of play - the bushings are all worn out. Guess its times for some newbies.
