Hi, was wondering what axles will interchange on thunderbirds from other fords. Are the the 83-86 same length as a stang also what about lengths on the 87-88. thanks
It'd sure be nice if someone would make up some kind of database with measurements and interchange data!
Wouldn't it though?
Short answer: 83 to 85 are same length as Mustang. 86 to 88 are longer and are unique to T-Bird and Cougar.
.....be even nicer if it were a stickie.....
its 85 1/2 to 88. also marks were the same as mustang length before 851/2 as well.
Why bother with a Sticky??? Seems as if they are seldom read...
It would be nice if the OP was SPECIFIC about what he was asking.
AXLES and AXLE HOUSINGS are two different things...
ALL of the 80-88 Tbird axle housings are the same width as the 79-98 Mustang ones, save for the 86-88 TBird 7.5's which are wider. All of this is covered in 2-3 threads and one even has a handy chart that shows all the dimensions...
Maybe if we put flashing lights and promises of candy on the stickies they might get read...
Like this?

Where's the candy?
Its all candy!!!!!!!!!!!!!
i htough mark axles fit??? But isnt it easier to go mustang rear for five lug? With our axles needing custom shafts??
I am closing this... there are already enough threads on it that are stickied...
