Title: Q's on wheel offset and SAI
Post by: HAVI on February 25, 2009, 10:43:22 PM
Steering Axis Inclination.  Looking at options for my '87 TC.  If I go with the current K-member and 83-85 A arms, my stock wheel centerline should be inboard 3/4" right? So would the stock SAI change if measured through the older style A arms mounting points?  So if I go with a wheel that has more backspace and less offset, my wheel should be outboard a bit, but how will that affect my scrub radius and SAI?  Has anyone figured it out?  Plus, what is the stock offset and backspace?  My car came with 4 different wheels.

My thought is running an older style steel wheel from the early 70's.  However looking at everyone's Cobra R's and the offset they have, I have to think the stock suspension will "tram line" if I go with an older wheel (less offset).  Shortening the suspension width by switching up the A arms seems like the only feasible way.  Unless I can find an old style wheel with the same as stock offset.  Have I confused everyone yet?  no?  Maybe I'll try harder next time, lol.

I would use your stock arms. i'm sure coolcats lists the stock offset somewhere on there.
