Question: Which one would you buy?
In about 6 months I may be looking to get a new (used) car. There is nothing wrong with my 95 T-bird (except that it has a 3.8 :hick: ) but my brother will probably need a more reliable car than the one he has. I'd be giving him my 95 and replacing it with another car. My 95 has 75,000 miles so I could probably get another 4-5 years out of it (as I only drive < 5,000 miles a year). I've narrowed down my choice to one of two cars as a replacement:
03-04 Mercury Marauder
05-08 Mustang GT (automatic as the GF may have to drive it at some point)
So if you had the choice of either one of those cars which one would you get?
The Merc is what I'd lean for...;)
03-04 Mercury Marauder of course!
i didn't like the 67/68 mustang look the first time they made it and the copy cats(05-08 Mustang GT ) are no better.
Mercury Marauder
Marauder.Mustangs are EVERYWHERE.
There's a reason for that. :p
Unless you two are gonna pump out babies pretty soon, I vote Stang! You got the rest of your life to drive an old peoples car. :D
I'd get the Merc, but then I am a old people...
marauder's are alright with some tint and flowmasters........its like a "crown vic"
Personally, I would say Mustang. While the Merauder is a very nice car, for a daily driver, I would pick something more common, meaning its easier to get parts, easier to fix, and its easier to find a mechanic who has worked on them before.
I always wind up with oddball years of oddball cars, so I know what the parts availability struggle is all about.
Marauders have the twin cam dude, I think that'd be shouting "TAKE ME HOME!!! But before you do lets do a burnout."
I would love a Maurader, but as Shawn said... they are harder to get parts, and unnesasary unless you have a family.... Go with the stang. Cheaper parts and a huge aftermarket if you want to play with it... plus it will retain its value better then the Maurader because of those reasons....
1 Vote for the mustang dude !! :poke:
Marauder + Trilogy Motorsports blower FTMFW!!!!!1!111. :D :D :rollin:
Dont get me wrong I love the mustangs to death, but yes theyre everywhere and marauders are just so badass looking.
Marauder = ICK! I despise those tubs...
Mustang = meh
I like my old people cars thank you very much. 4 doors are amazingly easier and its not like your buying a White or Stanley Steam car, parts are available and it is still a Ford so someone can work on it.
Funny everyone says parts will be hard to find and everything considering the cars we own LOL:rollin:
I say Marauder, semi sleeper appeal, roomy, comfort, oh and did I mention its not a Mustang? If you want a Mustang go Terminator.
Which Marauders came blown?
I like Marauders, but I'd still go with the Mustang unless you need room.
well no one has asked what the gf has as a car. if shes got a family car go for the mustang. if not then the marauder . or just have the gf buy one and you the other. kidding on the last one. i pick mustang
Marauder isn't going to be hard to find parts for. it doesn't use anything unique to it really. modding it would be expensive but again, your looking for a daily. i love them and id love to have one but id probably get the later mustang myself if it were between those 2 only. a terminator would be nice but it isn't listed as an option and they are still much more expensive than an 05 mustang gt or merc marauder is going to be.
also consider resale. you can get a marauder cheap because nobody wants them but resale will suffer for the same reason.
also, i would never, ever get an auto mustang but that's me. the "my gf has to drive it" excuse is weak. everybody should at least know how to drive a stick.
lmao...(yeah, I have a dirty mind)
I don't think any Marauder was factory supercharged...but I might be wrong.
I'll agree with this, but at the same time if you liive in an area with the congestion that I have, an manual gets to be a PITA in rush hour traffic.
The owner of a local diner I frequent has one with that blower, 4.10's and the PI interceptor wheels with a nice tint.
It goes.
how old are you
buy the mustang
one day you will regret it
all marauders from the factory are NA cars. Basically an auto mach1 engine (cast 6 bolt crank).
If you buy a Marauder you'll know you have a Marauder. Everyone else will think you've got a foot in the grave. Everyone calls them "sleepers" but sleepers are supposed to be fast. 300 horses in a 5000 pound car isn't fast, and no matter what Ford has done with the suspension it'll still handle like an old man's car. You could probably get a used 300C for the same money, and have a better looking, better equipped, more powerful car.
I may be jaded. The Lincoln Town Car I owned was the most boring car I'd ever driven. Yeah, it only had the non-PI SOHC engine and probably weighed a quarter ton more than a Marauder, but still. I can't see myself in another Panther.
That being said, I dunno if a used Mustang would be my first choice either. I never thought I'd say this, but you might consider looking at brand new cars. The manufacturers are pretty much giving them away right now. It's currently cheaper to buy a new car than it is to buy one a few years old. With a refreshed 'Stang coming for '10 you might get a bargain on an '09...
20 years too new for my blood. 300C sounds like a good idea. I plan on getting one (2005-present) in another 10 years when the price comes down to my $500 price range.
But, flip a coin, you'll be happy with either one.
Historically, interest on a loan for a new car is significantly lower than that for a used car. ;)
I'm happy with my old man car. And I've got the ultimate in old man cars.
remember, it's easier to get to the back seat to pass out. LOL

That's funny. Not dismissing the possibility, if you were indeed bored, that's cool. But I find just the opposite with my '87 Crown Vic. If it moved like my cougar did, I would be suffering almost ZERO having to drive it all winter, wouldnt miss the cougar nearly as much. I throw this thing around turns the cougar would be screaming and leaning on, and it does it like it's nothing. The RIDICULOUS power steering lets me palm the wheel everywhere, you can be soooo lazy. The brakes are AMAZING, and it is like driving on a living room couch. Love the seat and the ride, which surprises me given its handling!!! I'd like to see what it would drive like, again, if it had the same get up and go as the kitty. That would be
interesting LOL.
I think your right. I couldnt remember though. I thought there was one edition that came blown, but I cant remember anything.
No factory Marauder came supercharged.
Here's one website with Marauder upgrades.....
FWIW, the stock Marauder torque converter is a nice upgrade for a 2V 4.6 Crown Vic or Mustang.....
There's another company that makes an adapter kit to throw an Eaton M112 on a Marauder, but for the trouble i'd go with a Whipple or a Kenne Bell before a HEATON.
I know of another around me twin turboed.....520 RWHP.....STOCK EXHAUST DOWN TO THE IRON MANIFOLDS!
Buy like 7 rusty cats and birds then soup them up and swap motor's as you blow the transmissions.
I like Marauders...but can't see owning one (I'm 26) at this point in my life. The way I look at it now is the time to have a fast fun sporty car like a Mustang. I like my S197 a lot. Its a decently fast very nice quality car! They are popular but so are Crown Vics and Grand Marquis...and thats what 99% of people will mistake a Marauder for.
Sometimes I think Carmen has fallen on his head, I like the Hell out of my Grand Pa '07 Grand Marquis... No it's not a car you'd take on a road course, but handles reasonably well and it's a base GS with no frills... Has more than adequate power, will lay rubber from a standing start, and from 60mph, will bust 100mph passing a 53ft semi(fuggin' OH laws that limit semi's to 55mph, still get pissed thinking about running I-70)... Mother in law complains it rides too rough, has the wife take her out in the old '93 that is about like rolling around on a marshmallow...
If I ever decide to get rid if my Bird, I'm gonna get a Marauder... Local guy had one with a super charger(added) and the thing would run 12.0 - 12.1 with no problem... He did squeeze out one 11.98...
How did they pull that off? Rear mount or flip the manifolds?
I still say Marauder. Mercury for the win. Nothing like a four door sleeper, that why SHOs where always so appealing to me.
Interesting read... A Marauder compared to a police CV with cops driving...

You have all made good points. In reality I don't need a brand new car as I drive less than 4000 miles a year, so in 4 years I'll add about 16,000-17,000 miles to a car. I can get away with buying a used car with ~50,000 miles on it and after 4 years it will still have low mileage:hick:
I would like a Mustang, really I would, but I have to think about practicality. I don't have kids to worry about (or will have to for awhile) but I do have to use the back seat in my DD fairly often. A Mustang, being a V8 RWD coupe, won't have much useable back seat space. Plus I do already have a hi-po V8, RWD coupe in the garage. If I bought a Mustang I'd have two;)
Here's a price factor to consider as well. In my area I can get a 03-04 Marauder with ~50,000 miles in the $11,000-$12,000 range. An 05-08 Mustang GT with 50,000 miles ranges from $14,000-$15,000. I probably have to test drive a Marauder before I make a decision though (I have driven an 05 and up GT Mustang already).
A thought though. A V6 Mustang is cheaper than a GT. Being that I am less than thrilled by a V6 T-bird would a V6 Mustang cause the same reaction? IE would I be longing for a V8 in no time?
the V6 S197 has 60 more ponies than your current 3.8....
Mucho torque-o for a 6 pot too.
Enough to not make me miss a V8? ;)
Test drive one ;)
The 4.0V6 automatic swayed me away from buying a manual 03 GT. If you go that route just make sure you get one with the pony package. My single biggest complaint with the V6 version is the lack of traction-lock. But if you need a back seat, the Mustang is probably a no-go. It's got plenty of trunk space though... =/
Well we are still talking daily driver right? if your dead set on an auto than i wouldn't get the mustang, ten fold if your looking at a V6.
Yep still talking about a Daily Driver. The 88 T-bird is my good weather only fun/show car. I need something to drive Nov 1st-April 1st and to work all year.;)
I'm going to get something with an auto as, well, Chicago area traffic sucks. I wouldn't mind a stick for a fun car but for a DD an auto is much easier (yes I know I suck/I'm a wimp :mullet: ). I've driven both an 05 up Mustang GT with both a stick and auto and really power wise I can't tell a difference in every day driving. I'm wondering if a V6 Mustang has the power that I would want in every day driving. Remember I'm not going to mod my DD. I want something that is more fun than your basic FWD 4 door box ;)
