Title: Carb swap concerns!
Post by: 87tbirdmanjwg on February 11, 2009, 08:07:12 PM
Does anyone know what gauges I'll loose the function of by doing a carb swap? I have a 88' sport thunderbird with buttstuffog gauges and I'm not shure what else I'll have to re-wire with the swap. Any help would be great!
Thanks,
Jonathan

When I ran a carb on my 86, I had no issues with the buttstuffog guages.  The temp sender transfers to the carb intake.  The rest remain intact.

I was thinking that since my oil pressure and temp gauge wiring run through the EFI harness on the motor and run right to the computer via the harness I would have to figure out how to re-wire them...

The wires can be left alone or spliced in if you are pulling the whole harness.  I left most everything intact when I did my swap so I could convert it back later (which I ended up doing).  The wires do not run through the computer.

They don't run through the computer? Thats great! I just have to locate the wiring and pull it out of the harness. All of my EFI stuff is going bye-bye so I'll have to do a little splicing.
