Title: Opinions PLEASE!
Post by: massCougarxr7 on February 10, 2009, 11:50:39 PM
With my tax return i want to put a car on the road for myself. I work as a dishwasher for now until i can get my other job  back. I have the 88 sitting in the yard, because i wanted to start my resto, and i have the opportunity to buy a 96 f-250hd 2wd for $500 possible blown head gasket. My question is Should i fix the cat to good running order, or just buy the truck? Below is a list of things my cat needs to be road cappable...

1.Burnt valves..(will replace with e-7s)
2.bad tranny..(no big deal can get for 125)
3.control arm bushings.
4.strut tower bushings
5.heater core..(dash is already apart)
6.power steering pump
7.all rear bushings
8.thorough fluid flush and change
9.brake line..(the one that goes under the motor, it has a compression fitting on it)

The f250
1.brake line on axel
2.minor body damage
3.headliner is falling off
4. possible blown head gasket
5.5.7l injected with 153k on odomerter

Also if my funds allow me too id like to put an 86 style bumper and header on it.... :hick:  thanks guys!!!!!!

Fix Cougar... What did you think we would say.

Cheaper in the long run too. If you get the truck it is going to break you if not with repairs then gas and the Cougar will get pushed farther and farther back.

The Cougar needs work, but it's not THAT bad.Gather the parts, fix the cat.Plus, your gas mileage will be a lot better as well.

Coming from a man that has more cars than family members...fix the cougar.  It will simplify your life.  But pickups are fun too.

Install an H.O cam, factory shorty Mustang headers from a Fox Stang.Stang or Mark VII H-pipe (or any aftermarket H or X-Pipe),speed density H.O computer (DA-1 being the best),19# injectors,Mustang H.O upper intake and throttlebody,E-7 heads.Good to go.....done.With the H.O parts, you do not need Mass Air.Most all of these parts are super cheap, and easy to find.

i dont have a hoist to pull my motor and change my cam, i also dont think they have all that at the yard im going to.. they usually carry vehicles from the 90s only and ive been lucky to see that there are two 86 foxes one bird one cat.... and there are a bunch of 96 97 mustangs... i can also get a complete motor for $170, so if i spot one ill just grab it, but if i cant then i dont know what ill do, im only hoping to spend 500 or under on my mild resto, ill keep ya updated... and thanks oh and how much would be a good price for those 19lb injectors? Are there anyu stock motors i can pull them from????

You don't have to pull the engine for any of those mods. You may need to save a little more money and do it all right the first time.Watch the used engines and check them the best you can.Pull the valve covers and look under them.Turn the crank, etc. If it's possible, hear it run.

You can go to Ebay or the Corral forum and get everything super cheap. You just have to shop around a little.Do the swap now,and be done with it.You'll be glad you did.
