Title: 4R55E non fox related issue....
Post by: MexCougar on February 10, 2009, 11:28:29 AM
Hi, my ford explorer is doing something weird . When i am driving normally, the shifts in the tranny are good like 90% of the time. However, when im going uphill at low speeds (less than 2000 rpms) the transmission delays a little in the engagement between gears , less than half a second, but i can see the revs jump a little (like 100 rpms or less) , mainly in the 1-2  shift . This condition does not happen every time, more like one of 10 times.  O/D engagement is fine.

There are no apparent leaks under the car. What could be ? "rebuild time" like the advice in the explorer forums ? or time for a flush.

Transmission has 106,000 miles. Was serviced a year ago. Thanks in advance....

You might try a flush, but if it works it's only delaying the inevitable. The 4R55E is a notoriously weak tranny (it's basically an A4LD). My father knows all about it - he cooked one by towing a 3500 pound travel trailer 30 miles, against my advice...
