Post by: t3skidoo on February 04, 2009, 09:27:16 PM
What's a good price for 8.8" 3.73s?  I've seen new for $150+, how much for used?

I've got the opportunity to get a set for $50 + $25 for delivery.

(I just need the ring and pinion.)

Price is good for good gears, shipping a little high.
For a total of $75 not bad. You will still need the kit to install about $40,

When I had the pumpkin rebuilt and the torsen installed, the mechanic found a rag stuff in it.  Probably to le the whine the gears make.  I should have replaced the gears then.:punchballs:

Okay, thanks for the responses.  Maybe I'll wait for a better deal to come along.  I'm not in a hurry to pull the pumpkin.

So does the rear whine now without the rags?

Yeah, believe it or not, I decided to leave the rags out this time.

Never heard the gears in action before installing the IRS.

Yes, when I had pumpkin built, they found a rag stuffed in there.  Left it out when they put it back together.  Original gears, rebuilt pumpkin with new diff.

I was hoping to stick close to stock final drive ratio, so kept the 355s original to 8.8 pumpkin.
(345 gears + stock size tires ~= 355 gears + my tires)

Now I'm thinking that even after the new motor, it's going to drive better with 373s, which means I need to find the correct speedo cable gear too.
