I am going to be building a motor for my car within the next year. It has the factory style dual exhaust but larger 2.5" into daul 2.25". It also has the HO upper intake, TB, and cold air intake. When I build the motor Im going to reuse the stock cougar roller cam with 1.7 roller rockers and GT40 cylinder heads. Im going to bore it .030 and use flat top pistons. My question is with this set up will I need to run MAF. If I do I might as well run a better cam but Im trying to stay away from spending the extra money on MAF.
Im sorry if this question has been done to death but the reason I ask is to see if the speed density will work with my particular set up.
you don't HAVE to go MAF, but i would recommend it. i'm not really sure if that setup will run well either way tbh. i'm sure someone will chime n that knows more than i.
From what I've read, speed density will work unless you do something to change vacuum characteristics. That being said, I'd stay away from using the stock Cougar speed density computer. If you're going to replace the pistons go with ones that have valve reliefs. Ditch the Cougar cam (SO cams really, really suck) and go with a stock HO cam, get some 19-pound injectors, then get a DA1 speed density computer from an 87-88 Mustang (it'll plug right into your Cougar's harness).
EDIT: yeah what Thunder Chicken said. :giggle:
It'll probably be fine on SD, but you're not gonna be able to keep the stock tune because of the 14lb injectors. For GT-40 heads you need at least 19s. So you could probably put in a Mustang cam and 87-88 Mustang ECM and keep speed density that way.
Using your stock cougar 5.0SO cam is not a good idea.
It's a terrible cam that will drop out early in the rpm even with 1.7s and with those heads forget it.
My advice get yourself an HO cam,19lb injectors and an HO eec and use the 1.7s on that.
It will work fine with the SO pistons and will give you alot more power throughout the band and be a correct HO.
If your interested i have the injectors,SD eec and the HO cam all in perfect working order.
Yes the cam will work with you lifters.
Thank you. I will be getting KB two valve relief flat tops. As for the HO cam if I can find one at the shop or junkyard it will a good option. The DA1 and 19-pound injectors are also a good idea. I will most likely go with them I didnt know there was a difference in the mustang and cougar.
Yes I am very interested. I would like to get every thing I need in one shoot insted of searching all over the place. Can you PM me an price.
