Title: The PC thread
Post by: Beau on January 25, 2009, 11:48:45 PM
Since there's a Mac thread, I thought I'd start a little thread about us PC users...

Since I'm opening this ball, I'll list mine.

It's an emachines, has the 1.8ghz AMD Athlon, came with 256 RAM, now has a gig. I added a second hard drive, a Seagate 40 gig to complement my 80 gig C drive, as well as an external 320 gig Western Digital. I'm currently back to my stock onboard graphics, after flirting with 5 or 6 other cards that didn't really suit me.
Running XP with SP3, and a buncha neat stuff I've added but won't list here since it'd take 2 hours to describe it all, lol.

I've also got a DVD-Rom drive, and a Dual Layer DVD-RW drive from another emachines I parted out, as well as the 15-in-one media reader.

It's nothing fancy, but it's been rock solid, and done pretty much everything I've wanted it to do except play TES IV: Oblivion to it's full potential.

However...in a couple or 3 months, I'm getting a dedicated gaming system to basically replace it with.
I'm gonna keep the little e as a backup though. It's just time to upgrade, think in the snse of going from a Pinto to a GT, lol.

My flock:

Daily driver: Gateway MX7525 laptop, 15" screen, AMD 64 4000+ (2.6GHz), 256MB ATI Radeon X600 graphics, DVD burner, maxed out at 1.5GB RAM, 100GB HDD, running Vista Ultimate

Office: HP Pavilion, 2.2GHZ Core2 Duo, 3GB RAM, 500GB HDD, 80GB HDD (pilfered from an old Dell that ped out), Lightscribe DVD burner plus second dvd burner pilfered from the Dell, 19" LCD monitor, running onboard py graphics, Vista Premium

Garage: Old frankenstein computer: Full tower case, AMD 1400Mhz Thunderbird, 512MB RAM, 80GB and 40GB HDD's, DVD burner and DVD player, 128MB Nvidia graphics (no idea which chip), Creative SBLive 5.1 sound card, 17" CRT monitor, running XP Pro. This computer is used mainly as a Mitchell OnDemand station (not even connected to the internet), but I also use it as a "juke box" when I'm working in the garage. I've got the sound card plugged into an old Kenwood car amplifier powered by an old ATX power supply (again, from the Dell) and making noise with two 6.5" Kenwood speakers screwed to the garage wall. Or, at least, I usually do. Right now it's all inside, out of fear that the extreme cold would kill it.

This $379 price is a $270 discount compared to Best Buy’s normal pricing on this configuration of the Satellite 305 (L305D-S5892).

For an extra $100 you can get the Satellite L305D with 250GB of RAM and 4GB of memory. The $479 Black Friday bundle includes a wired mouse, Trend Micro AntiVirus/AntiSpyware and a protective sleeve. FWIW I didn't know about the Black Friday deal.  We got it in mid-December and STILL got that price.....
