Is the frame itself the same between a standard seat and a sport seat? How hard would it be to swap them out (the actual frame)?
The frame itself is different. The Sport seats have those adjustable thigh bolsters, the pull-out thigh support, and the air bladder lumbar that the base seats don't have.
Sorry,I meant the back part of the seat.
back metal frame should be different too.
I couldn't tell yet.I don't want to tear up my seat until I have some strong info.As far as the backs go....from the recline lever and the "tilt forward" lever on the back, they appeared the same, but, that's with the seats fully dressed.I removed the foam and material from the spare back, not my sport seat yet.If they'll swap,I'll do that after work tomorrow.
Pretty sure the back would be different too. The Sport seats have much larger bolsters than the plain seats, which pretty much have no bolsters at all. Those bolsters aren't all foam :D
I thought the bolsters were all foam.Hmmmmm,I have some thinking to do now.
I would investigate, and see what is broken. doesn't the covering unzip somewhere on our cars?
At the bottom of the seat back it comes undone.I may wait until Wednesday and run to the boneyard and just kill a slavage yard seat. There's a set of red seats in a TC there.I'll pull that thing apart and just get the seat back frame from it.Then,I'll show some pics if they are different. If they are the same,a lot of people can fix their seats cheap and easy. And most of us love cheap and easy.
Ill try and get some pics when I get up. I have Sport seats stripped down sitting in my room
Pics would RAWK !!! Thanks a lot.

Best I could do. Lights sucked in my room so I took it in my sisters room (I already knew what you guys where going to say)
I hope it helps some. I think they might be different now that I see them again.
Perfect.Guess what......The standard seat frame from a Stang is the same thing.YES !!! I'll be fixing my seat tomorrow. No welding, just pulling out the old frame and installing the replacement.I'll grab a few pics. Thanks a lot DPV,you RAWK !!!
O.K.,first,I apologize for no pics.Second, the Mustang seat frame is nearly identical with two exception1.The T-Bird seat has a small raised bracket welded on to the top of the frame to mount the seatbelt hanger. If you don't need that, the Mustang (standard seat) frame will be a diresct swap with little effort. If you have the lumbar support, you'll need to drill a couple of holes to install the clips for the airbag. If you don't need the belt hanger and the airbag, swap away.No more "gangsta lean".Due to the fact I wanted to keep the belt hanger on my seat,I ended up bolting the frame back together where the weld came apart.I used large washers, and a rounded bolt (which I cut the leftover threads off of).The seat is great again....but still getting swapped out as soon as I get the funds.
By the way, apparently my seat back release and outer hinge mechanism was loose where the pivot was,so,I installed the Stang hinge.Same part,as is the seat back lever, inner plastic lever surround piece and tilt lever.I hope this can help someone.
I have yet to see a car in which the seat releases work. Its nice not having to pull on anything but if I have a rim in my back seat and I get in an accident there is little resistances to keep it back there and me out of the steering wheel
Now you know how to fix that problem.
my seat releases never worked from day 1 of owning the car
Mine hasn't either....on any of my Birds. It does now.
I'm pretty sure the releases are supposed to lock up under heavy braking, otherwise they are not locked. :hick:
Alright I need to hijack for a minute (still good for post topic).
I was looking at my frames again and noticed the recline hinge is removable....
I love my power recline on my standard seats so I wonder if there is any difference in the mounting of these two onto the seat frame.
I need pics of base seat frames with power recline to see if it would work though.
Anyone?
I'd bet it can be bolted right on.
You got power recline? Mine have a lever on the side.
Oh yeah!
I almost had every option, minus leather, roof, and vents (think that was it. Oh auto lights.
I know I am going to have to do some fab work to get the control and motor to mount as the lumbar switch is in the way (lines on bags are shot and I like being able to lay the seats ALL the way back more then having lumbar).
If anyone has pics it would help down the road also if not Ill get some.
