A Mercury truck. My father owned one almost just like this when I was a kid (his was green, and I could almost walk under it, it sat that high). Thought you Americans might want to see one:

Nice truck! If you come across any 1942-47 Mercury trucks I'd be interested. More if it's a panel. But yeah, you don't see too many.
That's AWESOME! That would be sick to say you drove one. Wow.
... FE not an MEL
Yup.
Would be a bit...odd to see that tailgate going down the road in front of you, most folk not in-the-know would be surprised Merc made trucks. lol
Or rebadged the Fseries :D
news to me. is that a canada only thing, or have i been living under a rock?
My dads got one, a '67 I believe, sitting in pieces tarped up next to my Mercury.
Rebadged is common. Canada only. And to add more confusion: Ford of Canada. The Vin number for the truck will tell the truth. Here's how you can tell. http://www.mercurypickup.com/1968_ford_serial.htm 1968 was the last year they were made.
Here's some more: http://www.socp.net/index.php
Nice looking truck, one of only two years Mercury used that body style if I remember corectly. I think the only major retooling for them compared to the F-series was for the tailgate. I love those years (67-72) of Ford trucks.
Nope FE as already mentioned...
The 332 & 352 were first used in the '58 models along with a 361 cu in version in the Edsel... The 332 only lasted '58 & '59, while the 352 was used in full sized Fords thru '66 and a year or two later in trucks(interestingly in the cars it was "cut back" to a 2bbl engine for '61-'63 but regained the 4bbl in '64-'66, most trucks had 2bbls)... Was in Tbirds till the 390 arrived in '61(there were few Tbird versions in '60 that used the MEL 430 & three speed manual transmission) ... Other FE versions are, 406 in '62, 427 in '63(mid year), 410(Mercury only '66 & '67) and 428 in '66(the 406 & 427s were Ford's Hot Rod engines[NASCAR] & except for a handful of 427 '68 Cougars, all used high performance mechanical camshafts)... Last FEs in Torino/Fairlane was the '69 which had 390GT and 428 Cobra Jets(what I have)... Stangs got the 428 CJ in '70(was said the new 429 was too large to fit comfortably) but last 390 was '69... Big Fords last got a 4BBL 390 & 428s in '68, but had 2bbl "economy" 390s till mid '71 when it was replaced by the 400... The 428 was replaced in the full size Fords by the 429 in '69... TBirds 428 was replaced with the new 429 in '68 and Lincolns also received the first 460s in '68, replacing the MEL 462...
Not exactly sure when the trucks first used the 352, probably around '60... Common versions in the '70s trucks were the 360(352 with 390 bore, same as Edsel 361), and the 390, '76 was the last year for these engines, replaced by 351 & 400...
The large trucks(delevery type) & buses used FT version which were mostly 361 & 391, a inch was added to distinguish these from the FE as there were several differences, but basic blocks can be interchanged if you have a bushing for the lower distributor shaft...
BTW I believe the smallest MEL was the 383 used in Mercurys and maybe a few Edsels... Like FEs, MELs were also introduced in '58, but only lasted 10 years, through '67... FEs originally were used in
Ford &
Edsel models, while the MEL was a
Mercury,
Edsel,
Lincoln engine...
Niiiiiicee
The FE replaced the Y block design. (272, 292, 312)
A true Mercury truck is a treasure to be had for sure. I had tried to get a '47 just North of me in Canada, but couldn't get it across the border without paying an absorbant amount in fees. Some are in the States, though.....rather rare.
But the 292 "Y" hung on through '62 in the full size Fords and through '64 in the P/Us... Mercury got the last 312s in '60(a truly ugly fuggin car), prior to the MELs there was a 341 version used in Lincolns... Ford first "Y" was the 239 in '54 along with a 256 version in Mercurys(also used in some large trucks)...
No doubt...
I remember seeing a bunch of Mercury trucks when I was up there in the late summer of '64... Also saw my
first '65 full size Ford on that trip being delivered to a dealer... Guessing it was for a promotional deal, he delevered only one then left with other '65s still loaded... Usually I saw the new models by looking through the fence at Norfolk Assembly, which was only about five miles from here...
It looks identical to a Ford except the badging. Did they change anything about the interior? I'm amazed at how car companies will change things on cars for Canada, like the Acadians which were basically Chevys with Pontiac parts and different trim.
...which pretty much sums up just about everything GM did from the 70's on. And which Acadian were you referring to, the Chevy II Acadian or the Chevette Acadian? Yes, the Pontiac T1000 was called Acadian in Canada. And they still do it. Before you guys got the Pontiac G5 we had the Pontiac Pursuit. Which is now called the G5 Pursuit. And we had the Wave, which is nothing more than a Pontiac branded Chevy Aveo. I believe you guys will now see them as the G3.
...Not that Ford was much different. Mercury has traditionally been nothing but a Ford with Mercury trim and a few unique parts. Pinto/Bobcat, Mustang/Capri, Escort/Lynx, Taurus/Sable, Tempo/Topaz, Crown Vic/Grand Marquis, and of course, T-Bird/Cougar (though, to Ford's credit, at least the T-Bird and Cougar had some unique sheet metal).
There are more unique Canadian vehicles than you think (as in "not sold in USA", at least as badged in Canada. Somebody actually made a list on wikipedia:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_vehicles_sold_in_Canada_but_not_the_United_States
How come the body stayed so clean in the north country? Either way, that thing is VERY cool. I love that tail gate and the hood is neat too.
Tom, you're saying there was a 341 c.i. Y-block?
I knew of the older 50's era trucks but was surprised to see this one. After seeing this '67 Mercury I started looking around for more pictures of the '67-'68 trucks. I'm not sure about the earlier trucks, but it appears that the Mercury nameplate didn't make it into the interior of these late models. Of the interior pics I found, they still had "F O R D" across the instrument panel.
A 1968 short box 2WD has always been on my "wish list". If I ever get one, I will have to find a tailgate and hood from "up north". ;)
From that mercurypickup link I previously posted, there was a link mentioning that both Ford and Mercury shared the same assembly line in the last year.
Yes & no... :D ... Just seein' who I could catch, few kids are familiar with the old "Y"......
Actually the 341 was part of Lincolns "Y" line up... It was physically larger and only a few parts interchanged(no major parts)...
The Lincoln "Ys" were 317, 341, & 368, these were discontinued with the introduction of the MEL in '58... Plus there were several HD truck versions including a 302(a uncle had one of those in his '56 dump truck), I believe smallest was 279 & largest was a 332(no not a 332 FE)... Possibly there were a few others as well, never owned one of those engines... I did have a '57 Station Wagon with a 292...
