OK, I just read a DEC 2008 MM and FF where they had built a "BOSS" 340 Windsor with Racing Cleveland heads and tested it. 340 ci made 650 hp at 8000 rpm. Since these heads are made here in Australia and the 340 spins too many rpm to be low maintenance, I could build a 427 with the Cleveland heads and bring the RPM down to a reasonable 6500 or less. Is there enough aftermarket support to install a "Cleveor" Tall deck (9.5 deck height) motor in a T-Bird. I have already ID'ed the K member has to change to a mustang style. What about headers? Are they special order like the BOSS 340, or does anyone know someone who makes them?
my buddy built a 302/306 cleveor and put it in a sn95 stang, he used the 351/400m truck exhaust manifolds. not sure about headers though...interesting side note, a 351w with World Products heads didn't fit well in a mn12, but the 302 cleveor did...lil off topic but interesting.so maybe 351m/400 78-79 bronco shorty headers should work.
Why would you need a Mustang K member?
There are FOX Bodies w/ Cleveland install kits. The headers for a Clevor would most likely be based on a mustang and a 87-88 tbird has its own proprietary k member. The headers for a windsor 302 hit the factory motor mounts on these k members, guarantee the k member needs changed to use the mustang motor mounts. An 83-86 bird or cougar would not ned to change the k member since they have a mustang style k member.
I have to assume BBk (or some other brand) shorties should fit either.
Somehow I doubt he'll be using shorties....
Unless you just have to be different, I doubt a Clevor would make any more power than a Windsor with good aftermarket heads...
They don't hit w/ my motor mounts ;) Can't guarrantee they'd clear on a Clevor though.
Also it's 83-85's that use the Mustang-style motor mounts..86's use the 87-88 style mounts.
I guess my ever-so-vague point was that fitting the headers first before changing the K-member would be a viable option. Should be easier to tweak a tube than buy a K-member, no? Here's a link showing some options. The Geocities link shows pics. http://forums.corral.net/forums/showthread.php?t=540612
It's the huge tunnel ports and the canted valves that allow these heads to flow crazy numbers and test a small block bottom end every time. If I used BIG cubic inches, the heads would really make their potential at a lower RPM thus saving parts and maintenance, besides is there enough Windsor heads available that can make 850 HP, just on motor alone that cost 1300 dollars while I am stationed in Australia. It sounds like the deal of a lifetime to me. Please let me know what you think....Oh, and BTW I will not be using shorties on the motor and BBK would not make em if there were. They still have to make a set to use on GT40-P heads.
I recently acquired slip tubes headers (fox Cleveland swap type by Hedman) and wish I could tell you firsthand, but it's been too dang cold up here to be in the garage.
Are'nt CHI and AFD heads both made down there ? Both flow like crazy (ask John Kaase about CHI) .
Yeah, AFD is down here. Not so sure about CHI but the AFD heads are badassssssssssssss.
