Title: Aftermarket CD player
Post by: shine1stang on January 07, 2009, 09:51:14 PM
I was wondering if it is possible to add a aftermarket cd player to my premium sound system. I have a 88 tbird turbo coupe.  I was planning on just putting in a cd player if possible or i would just tear the whole system out and start from scratch.

NVM, dumb question, i have an 87 cougar with Premium sound and the way i did it was i bought an interface made by schoshe ( i think the model # is FAI-3A). You connect all the speaker wires to it (from the radio harness and from the aftermarket radio harness) and then ground it out. Thats the only way i could get mine to work, im sure there are other ways to do it, but the part only costs like 20 bucks and was easy enough, and it keeps the eq working too

Thanks man!
The more i think about it the more i just wanna rip it all out.  I have a rocking system that i had in my mustang. Infinity components all the way around. With a pair if Infinity perfects in the trunk.  This is my second car so its just a cruiser.

I just want a decent FM tuner & amp with a plug for an MP3 player. Some new Origami UMPCs have FM transmitters to play MP3s directly into your stereo - that's something I'm thinking of as well.

Honestly, the premium sound system isnt all that bad, especially if you use it just for the highs, just put on an aftermarket head unit, amp, and sub for the lows, i think you would be surprised on how good it would sound.

You may want to check if the factory amp is plugged in when you install your deck.  When I installed my deck I forgot to unplug the factory amp and it was loading my deck or something anyways within a few seconds the back of my brand new deck was too hot to touch.  I unplugged it right away with no harm done.  Anyways, the factory amp is in the trunk you need to drop down the driverside panel behind the back seat.  Hope the install goes well.

thanks for your help guys. I finished up the installation of the sub the other day.  It sounds amazing with a 12" infinty in the trunk. Ive retained the factory speakers as well.  The wiring for the head unit turned into a nitemare real quick but we figured it out.  We decided to do it late at nite and with a few rocky mountain cold ones under the belt already!
