k for about a month and a half now i've been wrestling with my cougars driver window (PW) it started when my window arms went down but not my window and afew times my window has fallin into the door and i've gone fishing for it. I've tried ot fix it more than once. I've gone through 3 different brands of adhesives recomended by autozone, advanced, and O' reilly's. and none of them seem to hold permanently. I took the door panel apart to put the adhesives on the clippings but also noticed something.
when i roll the window up im not sure if it supposed to do this or not but when it gets close to being fully rolled up it will push outward slightly like to seal the gap so there is no gaps in the weather trim.
and im not sure if the weather strip at the top of the window is stock or replaced but I can roll the window railing all the way down and keep the window in the weather strip and the weather stip will hold the window up with no support from the bottom.
is there any type of adhesive anyone would recomend? I was thinkin of just getting gorilla glue since that stuff hold anything and everything. But tomorrow (january 7, 2009) I am taking my cougar to get the windows tinted. can the tint shop do something to help? or is there any kin dof adhesive, epoxy or paste that is great for holding the window to the clippings?
(all old adhesive has been cleaned out of the window clippings)

I used a good quality clear silicone on mine five years ago and it's worked fine ever since. You have to make absolutely sure the glass is clean, and you should also rough up the glass with sandpaper where the plastic clips go to give the silicone something to grip to.
Oh yeah, and you've gotta make sure the clips aren't broken :hick:
lol nah the clips arent broken. im still unsure as to if the weather strip on top is factory or aftermarket because that is one strong S.O.B. if it will hold the window with no bottom support.
also is the window track supposed to push out slightly to seal the window so there is no air gaps?
just regular silicone? or would gorilla glue work as well? than again gorilla glue is hard as a rock after it sets and water resistant so if it doesnt hold well im sure that will be trouble to remove. lol

Ruff up the glass with some 80 grit sandpaper where the clips sit and then mix up your jbweld and install.
Enjoy a lifelong repair.
Did it to both my 87 and 89 bird's and both have given me no troubles since.
what do you mean by push out slightly?
sillicone. the stuff for glass is the better stuff.
I think home depot sells it in the glass and lexan sheet area
the weld stuff will work to.
just hope your clips don't ever brake and you need to remove them. :D
After forgetting that one side of the window track of not mounted in the door, the jbweld I had used busted apart after a few up/down cycles. The jbweld then chipped off surprisingly easy from the window and clips. Jbweld isn't as permanent as one would think but it does work if everything is where it should be.
I've said this before.I used a marine adhesive.It's a stick that comes in a tube and you break off a piece,knead it,and install it.It's weather proof,water proof,and after 4 years,still holds like glue.......so to speak.I scuffed up the glass,removed all of the old silicone stuff from the clips,and put it all together.Awesome stuff.I bought it at Autozone,and also have seen it at Wal Mart.
well waht i mean by it pushes out.
is that when the window track is just about at its limit for rolling up it will puch slightly toward the outside (away from the driver) as if it is giving a firm seal on the weather strip. its not much but even when i have the window sittin on the clips you can notice the window press outward slightly. not much but its there.
Same thing happened to mine; I ended up using that black goo that they use for installing windows, then I baked the window in a paint booth for a couple of hours. So far its held up well, working at an autobody shop has its advantages.
It might be the pressure of the motor pushing on the glass, and having nowhere to go but outward
buy some lithium grease and grease the tracks really well. Use the black goo window weld from 3m. It gets harder then jb-weld, and it is actually ment for windows. I don't think you even have to clean off the glass. I didn't.
It's called fast urethane, don't get it on your hands tough stuff.
I think you can only get it in caulk gun size and once open it's done.
I used clear silicone and it worked fine(3 yrs and counting) If I read what you wrote correctly about it pushing out I had my pass side do that as well. I had to readjust the window stops as it was actually raising to high and traveling past where it should stop like Daminc said.
I used blue RTV (what I had on hand) and so far its holding strong.
I spent many a day trying to glue my windows back into the clips. I tried everything Silicone didn't work (of course it was old and I didn't scratch the window up), Gorilla Glue, (don't bother with that as it won't work at all) in the end I used 3M's window glue and it's holding fast now, no problems. Yeah it's like $16.00 for the tube (caulk gun size is all you can get this in) but it worked. As Kitz Kat said, don't get this stuff on your hands cause it took me like a week to get it off (I should of wore gloves :punchballs: ) what a pain it was.
my window weld came off last night I think. I messed up where I marked my tabs, so I think I moved them to far forward or backwards on the window. I guess I'l have to do it again...
I broke down the last time and bought a tube of expensive glass adhesive silicone. It's the ONLY thing that has lasted more than one winter other than the OEM stuff for me.
If you need replacement window clips, They are identical in many Ford and Lincoln vehicles if you want to look and have a salvage yard nearby.
Frozen windows do have a way with pullin the glass out of the clips.

This was the first thing (among EVERYTHING) that went wrong with my bird. i tried gorilla glue, silicone, anything i could find. Finally, i got 3M Windshield glue, never had the problem again, even with broken clips... all 4 are broken.. 3M windshield glue.
