Title: Steering rack
Post by: ottoparts on January 04, 2009, 05:27:06 PM
I want to get rid of my power steering rack and goto a manual rack. I do not want to buy a high dollar flaming rivers unit. What other donor vehicles are out there that we can use a manual rack off of? Thanks.

Did a mustang ever come with a manual rack? I'm thinking about going to a manual rack but I plan on running the high ratio flamin river.

Rangers didnt go to rack untill after the TTB. My 01 Edge had a rack but it was power.

Early fox mustangs.(79-86) You will have to use SN95 inner tie rods
they are longer.  You will also need and adapter to go between the
steering shaft and the rack.
The mauel is smaller in dia.

There are also Fairmonts/Zephyrs that had manual racks as well.

pinto.

I used a mustang rack on my 87 thunder bird, it was power, but my tie rods worked fine.

Maybe because both of my cars have SN95 spindles. My inner tie
rods had to be adjusted all the way out for the toe end to be correct.
So I swapped to SN95 inner to keep from then being @ the end of the outer tie rods.
