Title: sway bar mount broke....now what?
Post by: jasontbird on January 04, 2009, 04:19:24 PM
What do you guys recomend i do to fix this?  And to prevent it?  I am thinking I used the wrong end links.  Maybe they are too short and put too much strain on the brackets...???  This wouldn't be the first time my fix caused another problem.  lol.  All well, live and learn I suppose. Your help is greatly appreciated.  I am starting now to get the little  fixed on this car so I can go to cat-jam this year.  I went looking expecting to find a broken shock cause I heard thumping but found the broken sway bar mount instead.  YUK!

looks like it was never welded on very good and the spot welds broke.
Take it to a local exaust shop and have them weld it up.

Well, after the last episode at a ler shop I am reluctant to let anyone I don't know weld on it.  The last joker welded exhaust brackets on my trunk pan, burning holes in it and catching it on fire!!  lol.  If it' ok to weld that back up I can do it I suppose, or enlist someone better than I.  I know a few.

holly flock!!
I didnt even know that was an option,, sway bar mounts breaking off.

sumthin is goofy here..... post up your recent suspenion replacement parts list.

your sway bar end links might have been to short or (insert speculation here).  Anyway, maybe your sway bar is bent.

has anyone ever pulled the car by the sway bar?
do you see signs where a chain was wrapped around the sway bar as well as some damage along the bumper skirt / scoop?

also, look at the amount of corrosion on the previous weld spots.  The rest of the mount stayed in place while the weak sections simply got torn off.

Ill bet someone's pulled that car by the sway bar.

I had to weld in a "U" section in that area as the "frame" cracked near the sway bar mount. Easy enough area to weld.

My passenger side broke almost exactly like yours.  However I had changed out the end links a while back, so I doubt that was the root cause.

I plan on welding mine back on.  And replacing the bushings while I'm at it.

If you want pix let me know.
