Title: cruise control?
Post by: 86Tbuzzard on January 04, 2009, 12:13:34 PM
Been working on the cougar this weekend, and did the digital cluster swap, thining out the emissions garbage ect; however I noticed the speedometer cable runs into the cruise control then down to the tranny. Now I know like on the old bronco's it had a speedometer cable for use with non-cruise models, is this the same with the cougars? also what could be done to use the cruise control if i decide to use it with the holley 600cfm 4bbl?

i'm assuming you're talking about your 83.....  mine already has the digi cluster and the speedo cable goes directly to the trans from the cluster.....  the cruise gets a signal from the cluster....  the only "cable" for the cruise is to operate the throttle body.....  with the digi dash, "This sucker's electrical. But I need a nuclear reaction to generate the 1.21 gigawatts of electricity I need."......  well seriously, i think it's pin 5 (dark green/white) that transmits the vehicle speed from the cluster to the cpu to tell them your vehicle speed so the cruise servo knows when to work (it also goes to the tripminder too)

so to answer your question, the DG/W wire going to your cpu won't care if you're running a carb....  the only issue you'd have there in the actual servo cable hookup..... i think :)
