Title: 7.5 to 8.8
Post by: ottoparts on January 03, 2009, 12:08:57 AM
I didn't find what I was looking for so I am going to ask. I picked up a 8.8 from a 90 Mustang convertible. The guy gave me the torque arms, sway bar, etc. Will this bolt right into my 88 t-bird? Is there a difference between T-bird and Mustang torque arms (length, width, etc) ?

it should but the mustang rear is not as wide as your 88 t-bird rear .

I belive the stang rear is alittle "shorter" by about an inch or so  compaired to the stangsrear.  Also, IIRC, if it didn't come from a V8 car it's a 7.5" as well.

I believe the control arms from a Stang are a little shorter as well, but the T-Bird/Cougar arms can be used.

I just done a measurement yesterday on a set up,I have pics coming today.I have a 88 cougar xr7 disc brake rear end and a linc mrk 7 disc brake from a 90 model(12/89).the linc has the same measurements as a mustang 79-93 which is 54in and the cougar is 56.the 88 t bird maybe the same as the mustang ,it should measure from outside the s 54in.I believe the arms are a little shorter.not for sure on that one.,they have a chart on here that is very helpful and these people are very nice on here and I found out that they would help in anyway they can.I hope my comparrison wasnt misleading and I hope this helps.kenny

I ment the stang rear, the 8.8 was the mustangs V8 rear end. I think that 87-88 T/C's and 87-88 XR-7's got the 8.8's for out cars. The T/C's had disk brakes and teh XR-7's got 10" drums

Yea the 8.8 I got was out of a five liter. I got it for $100 bucks . Drum to drum, parking brake cables are still attaches as well as the torque arms and it has a limited slip in it. So I figured I couldn't go wrong. Thanks everyone for their insight.
