I hate this stuff.....

It snowed a few inches yesterday, so it wasn't too bad. I actually like the snow, I just don't like having to store the nice cars until May.

It's not snowing here... yet. The forecast calls for a  of a storm overnight and tomorrow though:

Quote from: Environment Canada weather forecast
Hants County
3:53 PM AST Wednesday 31 December 2008
Blizzard warning for
Hants County

This is a warning that blizzard conditions with near-zero visibilities are expected in these regions. Monitor weather conditions..Listen for updated statements.

...Major winter storm to give blizzard conditions to Nova Scotia later tonight and Thursday...

A deepening low pressure system southeast of Cape Cod late this afternoon will continue to intensify as it tracks northeastward. The low will continue to intensify as it tracks parallel to the Nova Scotia coast tonight and will lie near Sable Island Thursday morning. The low will move east of Cape Breton later Thursday afternoon as a very intense winter storm.

Snow from this system has already moved into southwestern Nova Scotia as of late this afternoon and will spread northeastward to the remainder of the province this evening. Snow will become heavy at times tonight..And this combined with strengthening northeast winds will give occasional near zero visibilities in snow and blowing snow. Snow will ease off over western Nova Scotia Thursday morning but will persist over the eastern mainland and Cape Breton until late in the day. Total snowfall amounts of 15 to 25 centimetres are likely over western sections of the province...While the rest of the mainland could receive 25 to 40 centimetres with locally higher amounts possible especially over eastern areas. Cape Breton will likely see between 30 and 50 centimetres with locally 60 centimetres possible in some areas before snow tapers to flurries Thursday evening.

Strong northeasterly winds will develop as the low approaches tonight then shift to very strong northerly winds Thursday morning as the low passes southeast of the province. Mainland Nova Scotia will likely see wind gusts of 80 to 100 km/h with locally higher gusts possible over some exposed locations. Cape Breton will see wind gusts to 100 km/h with some exposed areas possibly gusting to near 120 km/h on Thursday. These very strong winds will give widespread blowing snow and white out conditions...As well as cold wind chill values...To much of Nova Scotia on Thursday. Winds will ease somewhat over southwestern Nova Scotia Thursday afternoon but strong winds and blizzard conditions will persist over eastern sections until late Thursday evening or Friday morning.

In addition..Higher than normal waters levels can be expected Thursday afternoon and evening for the Northumberland coast of mainland Nova Scotia and the northwest and northeast coasts of Cape Breton. Between Cape George and cape north..Including st. Georges bay..These high water levels combined with heavy pounding surf could give local coastal flooding during high tide later on Thursday and Thursday night.

I bolded and italicized the figures that apply to my region of the province. For those metrically challenged, that's 10-16" of snow driven by 40-60MPH winds. daminc and shame302, this is likely the storm you guys had.

Snowed a little and the sun came out and melted it.
But the winds really picked up.

You guys finally got our storm. We got around 2 feet over all. We got about 6 inches at the start, then it warmed up and rained all over everything, then snowed another foot or so. Its mostly gone now, but it should snow tommorrow.

I dunno about that. I had something to play with in the snow, in fact I had two things (actually, at my peak I had six snowmobiles, but thinned the herd down to these two):
Snowmobiles made winter tolerable, but they certainly didn't make it "great". Especially when I got the Formula stuck in three feet of snow one night at about midnight. Took me two hours to dig it out. When gashiznit five bucks a gallon last winter I sold 'em.

I even made something up to make winter a bit more tolerabe:

Beats the hell out of shoveling, but still doesn't make me like it.

Yeah, I'm bitter. I wanna drive my T-Bird and salt is preventing that :burnout:

I have not got mine stuck this year. At least not yet. I got it buried good once and then bought a new track and suspension. Now it floats quite well over the deep stuff and even water. I could use a little more horsepower though. I have had that 440 XCR for about 4 years and winter has been fun ever since.

Post by: Thunder Chicken on December 31, 2008, 08:45:25 PM
The problem with that Formula wasn't power (it had plenty of that), it was weight. No matter how fast you go, if you hit heavy snow you'd go under it, not over it. The track was like new, the suspension was all rebuilt, and the skis were new plastic ones. It was even the long track model, which shouldn't sink. Didn't help - it wasn't a snowmobile, it was a submarine. That's actually why I hung onto the Everest - it was so light I could break trail with it (or let one of my friends ride it ahead of me to break trail).

F U Winter!!!

For the SECOND time today, it is snowing.....
The first was this morning which after that bout, I shoveled and cleaned all the cars.  This included spray waxing and detailing the Cougar.... It WAS spotless....

I knew it was gonna snow later in the week, but I figured maybe I could get a good photoshoot before it happened with the new D-SLR camera I recently purchased.  Instead I have this:

I get both lakes too. If we drew a straight line between our houses, we probably only live 10 miles apart. (or 16K in your land) LOL

I don't really know how much our snow total is, but up here it doesn't melt the next day.  Matter of fact, it doesn't melt til April or May.  I just got done shoveling again today, and the banks are about shoulder height.  It is what it is.

When it was summertime I couldn't wait for it to snow so could check out the AWD performance. I was done testing in mid-November and it hasn't stopped snowing since. The city/state must be running low on funds/salt because they aren't plowing like they used to. I can't wait for this stuff to melt.

Be careful what you wish for... :brick:

We had quite a bit of snow, including about 8" of fresh stuff last night, but then it turned to rain, rained like hell for about 12 hours, and the temp got up to 50. All the fresh stuff melted, a good portion of the old stuff melted, and now the temp has gone back down and my driveway is a skating rink.

No snow scheduled for the upcoming week!

Hopefully that will provide enough time for the foot of snow from this past weekend to melt some
