Well, the 83 TC clone goes off for paint next weekend. Should have it back in my possesion my mid April :D It's staying silver.
I say "clone" as it is formerly a 5.0 car and the paint and trim details are being done up in 83TC fashion. Mechanically it is far past stock
The only "extra" I'm adding are some NACA ducts in the lower quarters between the door and the rear wheel well. These are for future use (either IRS diff cooler or "other" uses). I figure I'd add them now instead of going back and cutting holes in nice paint.
Then will come the reassembly.....:hick:
I've had the car for 9 years now, so I figured it was about time.
Pics? As I recall this is the silver one with the cage and custom tubing for the FMIC, right?
Yup, the silver one.
No pics really. It's all stripped in the garage. I'll shoot a couple pics as I haul it away to the paint shop and there will be MANY upon the reassembly.
The FMIC stuff is getting changed (new IC) and the cage is going to get redone and repainted as well. I need to pull money out of my ass to get a set of the Recaros I have recovered too....otherwise they will be tan at CJ :hick:
Yay! That makes yet ANOTHER turbo car at CJ!
Now if I just had 48 hours in a day to get things done....
I always figured you neede 48 if you could survive without sleep. 75 seems about right :D
Well I dropped the car off today. Should be 3 weeks until I get it back
Here's a couple pics..It's getting "jammed" and the underside of the trunk and hood will be resprayed as well. Engine bay will come later ..when I pull the engine out to "play" a little.
Here's a quick pic of the NACA ducts I'm having installed as well..
Kind of hard to make out since they're black.
They'll be capped for right now inside, but they'll be used for diff cooler or something on down the line...
Heeeey, yous got Cobra wheels too. I like the exhaust. ^_^ Very spiffy.
Yup, 94-95 Cobra wheels. I've had them for 5 years or so.
As far as the exhaust goes, thanks. I've always liked the dual-tipped single exhaust on the early 80's cars. There never was one on the 83-84 TC, but it fits. I need to replace the 2 1/2" tail-pipe with a 3" eventually, but at the time it was easiest. I'm not a fan of duals on a 4 cyl myself.
Thats gonna be one fine looking bird when thats done :P
man the 83 style is growing on me...
Yeah the 83/86 cougar/tbird body style is my favourite.. and i'm not sayin' that becuase I own two either :hick:
Chuck looks like you got that bitch stripped down pretty good. I can't wait to see the end results!
Yes, I've got two '83-'86 cars. Definitely my favorite style.
I wish i had the fab skills to cut up my bumper and stick some Borla dual square tips in there. :welder:
Looks like she'll be nice when your done. Clone schmone bet if i put the 84 hood back on mine nobody could tell the diff. Any how did you drop in the 15:1? hopin to see pick when she done. Do you wanna paint mine. LOL
I did the rack years ago.... That is an ordeal in itself meaking sure you get the right pump as well.
I'm going to stop by the shop this weekend I think to take a couple picks of the in progress stuff.
Just a couple update pics.
I stopped by and we finalized the paint and trim color.
It's still looking like another couple weeks before I get it back. If I can I'll stop by next weekend and check in again.
awesome...me likes
Still a shagy car in primer and missing body parts. Look good enough to go joyriding in :P
Chuck, is that the car that's getting the custom IRS?
It will be, yes. It won't be under it for CJ05 though.
Well I stopped to check on progress. He got pulled away on a couple other things, so he might be a couple days behind getting mine done, but no biggie. He was getting the NACA ducts fitted and wanted me to verify that they were where I wanted them...Glad they weren't any bigger...
He said he should be ready to start spraying midweek...
thats frickin' cool
originally i was going to go with a rise cowl hood on my car with a turbo coupe hood scoop mounted in the passengerside front fender for a cold air intake. still might do it but for now the idea has been kicked to the curb. i still think it would be cool though...
OK, stopped back by today. The weather is for here this weekend, so it was hard to get any good shots in the shop. He's got the trunk and hood "jammed" and is doing the doors today. He said he'll be ready to spray Mon/Tues...I'm just shocked to see it all smooth and one color...antition is mounting :grinno:
Here's a couple shots . A better shot of the NACA duct install too.
Looks good, except I don't really like the little lip around the scoop.
looks good....... cant wait to see it finished
Yeah, he couldn't quite get it all the way flush, but the lip will be finished nicely though...and it will be body color anyway.
Well, I just picked it up today....all I can say is WOW :D
It wasn't w/o incident..but I'll get to that.
Here's a couple pics before we loaded it.
Now..here's a couple more. Notice that the bumper cover is off in the first pic.
Somehow, even when we had no issues loading/unloading it the first time....we weren't so lucky the second...We completely thrashed the bumper cover loading it. I'll be taking my spare back out for him to do...so I managed to scratch it before I even got it home...so it should be good for 4-5 years now :p
WOW, looks good. Looks really clean without the side mouldings.
Thanks :D. The mouldings are going back on though once I get them cleaned up. He's gonna shoot them the same color as the rub strips on the bumper.
I thought I read you were getting them redone too, it will still look sharp with them. Love the naca ducts. :D
really really cool. Wish the scoops were bigger though. Really nice. Cant wait to see it all assembled.
sweet man. thats a beautiful thing right there...
NICE!!!! Cant wait to see it put all back together.
James :headbang:
That looks really nice Chuck, can't wait to see it put back together
Looks great, and I'm glad to see a "4-eyes" get some lovin' around here.
Down here, gray/silver seems to go to hell very quickly. I've heard a few times that it's the fastest color to go bad down here. (don't know if it's true, though.. and no idea why, if it is.. I would think dark colors would go to hell faster, but I'm no expert on paint so what do I know? heh) Even really good gray/silver paint jobs like yours seem to get eaten up around here in a hurry. I hope that isn't the case up there.. 'cause that looks sharp.
So, on a side note, did you already know about what I sent you in that PM?
that looks good Chuck! :D That is gunna be insane wen its done!! *i think the older foxes are the best, thats why i got one :D keep it up!!!!
Well, we used "good" materials, so it should be fine. It's not going to sit out in the weather much any more now anyway. I've cursed myself with a car that's too nice now :hick:
YUp, I got your PM. The Esslinger stuff is nice...but $$$$$... I'll use the money towards something else
Looks great Chuck..... your gonna have a NICE show car there
looks very nice. love the colour too.
show car? :giggle: you dont know chuck very well then
no obviously i dont :P
Yeah, this is definitely not going to be a show car. Once I'm not too scared to touch it again I'll be beating the snot of out it, and it's going to be a test mule of sorts.
The 84 XR-7 is going to be more of the "show" vehicle...
The next project is to get the engine back together enough to run and get the cage welded in there and back out to him to paint that so I can get the interior put back together.
That looks great! Can't wait to see it with the trim back on!
Schuweet!!! Lookin good Chuck....
Looks great man. We need more pics! :)
