hey guys I know alot of you dragrace and cat jam is for more show
my 88 will only ever look good 15 to 20 feet away would any one be up for a day of racing some time next summer or fall??
I was hoping to go to Tri-state near Hamilton when the weather warms back up. Kil care and edgwater always seem too busy for me. 3 am going south on I-71 between the two Lebanon exits is good as well. You can see a couple miles down the road for cops and it's a nice straight shot for a few miles if you give a minute for traffic to clear.:D
not to deter you from setting up a drag race meet of sorts, but there are plenty of 20fters that attend CJ, including my own.
set up your drag meet, AND go to CJ! :burnout:
^ Yeah...what he said! ;)
I was not serious about racing on I-71 by the way, it's just a good spot for finding your top end.
If I go to CatJam, we should hook up, since I know a few of us will try to caravan on the way.
Ed, aka 1FSTCAT lives in Norwood, and he may be interested as well. He has about 400 hp at the flywheel, in an 87' 5 spd w/supercharger. I'm only running about 325 hp w/5 spd. I need to buy some drag radials for it before as well so I can hook up next time.
im going to cat jam alright dont worry about that Im just sayying that i would be nice to get a meet set up at a strip ill find out what track rental or just a saturday night at edgewater
are there any drag strips close to youngstown?
Id love to see that
My car wont look very good up close either but id love to take it and run it against you guys!! especially since my car is a friggen boat
Hmmmm, I am planning to come to CJ this time around and wouldn't mind putting my Bird up against some of the others here. It would be fun me thinks :burnout:
if my car is done in time i will be going to cj, and ill give you a run!!!!!!!!!!
Bring it on big boy...:burnout: :bangtbird: :burnout: :D
Lmfao ... better hope my 460 isnt done by then, dont want you to S**t yourself when i blow a wheelstand by ya!!!!!!! LOL J/K or am i ????? lol
I have been on this board for 6 years and this is the FIRST Time that anyone has suggested meeting up for some drag racing....and hell I now live 100000 miles away. T-Bird is in storage for the next two years until I return to the states for another tour. Good luck fellas with coordinating some drag racing (Heads Up, I hope) if you can get enough takers.
well post some vids for ya!!
yall just want some parking lot racing at CJ or a meet at a real strip or both??
ill even put up 60 bucks
30 for the winner with street tires
30 for the winner with slicks (street drag radial tires count)
One of these days at Cat Jam would be cool, if we can find a place. Around here at a drag strip is preferred.
what would be best is if you could hold Cat Jam at a dragstrip. Hold the car show and the racing in one location. That would work the best.....What about Colombus Ohio? Is'nt that close to Norwalk Dragway, or hell a smaller 1/8th or outlaw 1/4 mile dragstrip would kill for a venue that would purchase a whole weekend. Maybe it is time we step up Cat Jam to an event that has an adjenda, like build a nationally recognized club with an event. What do you think??
That would be sick... cj at the strip!!!!!! If you were lookin around at peoples cars and someone was like "Hey betcha mines faster!!!" You could turn around and say " Oh yeah... strap up an pull to the line". and boom youd go at it.... or a pinks all out type deal but you get a trophy instead of cash...
I get good car trophys cheap
I would be interested in a little track time as part of CatJam. No parking lot or street racing for me.
http://www.quakercityraceway.com/index.html
found a track 45min from youngstown
but i need to talk to eric and make sure its ok with him to make this a part of cat jam i dont want to step on any ones toes
Looks as if the 11th of July would be a shoe in. Test and Tune plus a band and ribs. The only thing better would be stripper at the track, next to Cat Jam. Call the track and see if they have club discounts or what you could arrange. Chat with Eric First.....to see if this could be a go. Then chat with the track. LOL. It would suck to screw it up the first go round.
true that it will not be a official CJ event this year but lets see how many show to the t&t im waitting on the track to call me back when we get closer to CJ all start a thread and see about getting up there early and save some pit boxes
Now were talking a kick ass CJ. Hell, I'm up for it and will help in anyway I can (kick in for trophies, cash or whatever). Let me know what I could do to help.
ill get some trophies or if anyone wants to add to the 60 im putting up
Helping add pics for 86T-bird:
with engine pics also:
couple more photos:
....Cat Jam is gonna be something to be at this year. Too Bad I am far away. You guys gotta post some pics if you race cause I am gonna miss out, and it, this what I live for. I have not made a pass in my T-Bird in 5 years and this being overseas shiznit is killing me. Pegasus did the track call you back? Has the trophies been worked out?
i like dem pics merc man. if we race em, i may go after all.
Calm down guys..... I HIGHLY doubt there is going to be any scheduled racing in the agenda at all... I mentioned it a few years ago and it was shot down.....
Too many people come from too far to risk breaking the Cats and Birds on the strip. I will do it, but not many others are willing to take that risk.
I BET you can NOT count on a race being issued. unless you go on your own. but good luck to you.
Id break mine just to find out what it was made of when its done.. ill tow one cougar with the other............tow dolly of course....
RJ (and everyone else), I'm never going to oppose racing at the drag strip during CJ. I think it's a great idea, although not for everyone...still, anyone can pay to sit in the stands and watch and in that respect it's still pretty much a family-oriented event.
In 2009 there is already an event planned at Quaker City during the weekend of CJ. That will probably hold true no matter which weekend we'd have CJ during the entire summer. As such it just won't be an "official" CJ09 event.
The main reason that people may have objected to any kind of organized racing at CJ in the past is that, as mentioned, if parts break then you're screwed. Our show is not built around the premise of racing...if it were then people would be prepared for such things. CJ is more of a get-together, hang-out type of event.
However...those people that don't want to be poussays are more than welcome to go out to the track and break stuff. I'll be in the stands watching. Who knows...maybe I'll even stretch the legs on the ol' Cat myself... ;)
That's what is great about living in a free country. You do not have to do something that is not what you wanted to do. For those that do not want to race, sit on the sidelines and cheer on your friend. It is entirely your option. Once the sun goes down and the people are leaving, encouraging them to make their way to the drag strip and watch their friends or to see a few fox bodies beat the snot out of each other is all that is asked. We can do this on our own without the support of Cat Jam, but I would expect that the club/forum would support it's brothers and sisters at the local drag strip. I think that is exactly what you are saying if I understand you correctly.
What mods have you done to the 84? Are you gonna set a new forum record for the six gunners?
I will have to find out, once the racing season begins, how many cars typically show up on a test-and-tune night, and also on this particular night during CJ when there will be bands playing. I'm thinking it may be difficult to get more than 1 or 2 passes if it's going to be crowded. But yeah...if there's enough interest, I think people have the right to do it.
I put in an 8-track stereo and a NOS console plate. Gunning for LOW 18 seconds now. ;)
But I will be blasting my Best of Foghat 8-track all the way....suckazzzz!!!1!
Take that klunky 8-track out, and you gain a second. LOL
1 vote for a move of catjam to epping ;o) :hick:
Spray the wheezy 6 holer till it pukes!!!!! That would really light up the evening.
I will have trophies for top 6 or 8 over all
the track never called back
After thinking about it....the track will most likely not call you back since it is winter time. There is no one there and they are not coming in during the holidays. If there is a cell number or e-mail that may be your best bet. You still have "PLENTY" of time to work this out before CJ. There just needs to be more interest. I am sure that Tom would come if he knew about the racing.
Hell Yeah... If it busts, I'll have it towed back to my buddy's place in Alliance...
Well good then... if it is a go, Im in,:rollin: and I will run you first..... ;)
hell I doubt there would be many of us race but I will run as many times as possible... gotta make a small trailer for CJ now so I can bring some tools and slicks...
Well you better bring more than you have now, even worn out, my shiznit still runs mid 13s @ 103... If I come, it would be with a fresh 331 installed...
I second it... or maybe a New England gathering this summer.
I have to agree with the new england idea but itll never fly...
well my Vortech and a fresh 302 will be under the hood by then so we will be good to go. ;):hick:
if i was able to go this year i could set the new highest track record for v6's. i could try to hit the high 13's instead of high 16's.
No problem, when you power shift 3rd and that POS T5 pukes it guts, I'll just cruse on by... :D
He also sold his vortec.
Has anyone went any further with the track procurement? It may be a possibility that I will be attending Cat Jam and if I gotta dig my T-Bird outta storage get it professionally tuned, mount new slicks, install a fuel cell and trailer it from Illinois, I will be laying down some passes somewhere. If this has not went any further or is already written off, I won't even bother.
The car should be in the low 12's and if I have time to reinstall the NO2 then it should be pulling high 10's. I would love to race it since it has been a 4 year hiatus.
Im still working on this
theres a track thats 45min from youngs town they are haveing a T&T on the friday of CJ
is any one a member of the turbo coupe forum/club??
if i get set up to rent a whole track ill need them and im going to get the help from the SHO club to get more cars and the new cougarclub and the focus club
it might turn into the fun forgotten ford race day (no mustangs alowed)
im also looking at a dragstrip in KY that has T&T all day saturday Im going to call them up and see if i can cut a deal with them so every 20min or so its the birds and cats time to run
What ever happened with Quaker City??? Did that fall through?
no thats still a go
Im tryying to setting up another meet as well
yeah, but hopefully in the spring I can get some money back on the sled and get another blower.. :mullet: :hick:
I wont be powershifting down there as I cant afford a tow bill back.... though I thought about trailering the car down this year just for the racing. LOL.:D
I cant wait!
Im going to start making the trophys they will be 1st,2nd,3rd, street tire
and 1st, 2nd, 3rd, drag tire and over all fastest 1st and 2nd
IS this just going to be a test and tune night or is there going to be a bracket event for the TBird/ Cougar crowd??? It sounds like brackets if you are making trophies. Has anyone committed for entry fees for brackets? Do you need some prize money for enticing the racing? Please let me know what is going on and I may have some insight.
It is a T&T how I am going to work the prizes is
after the T&T bring me your slip and i will mark out the fastest 3
also Im going to call them up again and get us a staging lane and once every 15-20 line ups we will go
I didnt think about prize money but if every one would like to put 5 bucks in a hat and to the winners go the spoiles!
