Just curious what the general consensus is here on throttle body coolant hoses. Have you deleted yours, or do you have yours connected? Removing those hoses does help clean up an engine compartment. You can also remove your TB without coolant getting all over your engine. What do you guys think about this?
I deleted those hoses a few years ago.I put an old wash cloth under the throttle body before I removed it because fluid will come out.I had my metal coolant lines where the hoses came off welded up.You can cap them off if you don't want to go that route.I have never had any issues with the lines removed.I also did the EGR delete on my car as well when I removed the lines.I also swapped intakes,and the throttlebody,and the spacer,and the injectors,and added Mass Air......LOL.LOL...anyway,yes,you can remove the lines if you want.They really don't hurt anything staying put,though.Whatever you like..
do yo plan on driving the car in the cold alot? like 25 degrees or less f?
those hoses are there to heat the throttle body and to prevent throttle freeze up if the car never sees cold weather you dont need them.
Well. I do live in Ohio, but it was my understanding that it was a myth that your throttle would freeze up without those coolant lines being in place. Not speaking from experience on that though. I do know that Cobra intakes don't even have those TB coolant hoses.
not a myth but it doesnt happen often... take an air hose outside when it is 20 degrees out and blow 120 psi of compressed air on aluminum. if your air tank is cold it will freeze a pop can almost instantly. "actually kinda handy when you do have a refrigerator and you want to get cold mountandew...."
They are there to cool down --yes cool down -- your EGR gases that pass through there.
Cobra intakes don't have them....
What would happen if we took ALL water vapor/moisture from that experiment (http://sbftech.com/Smileys/default/wonder.gif)
If you dont know much about it then do what i do; go under the assumption " Its gotta be there for a reason.....":dunno:
When I first bought my '88 XR7, I was nosing around the new-to-me 5.0 and saw those hoses. Thinking they were for vacuum, I yanked one off while the (hot) engine was running.
That was fun.
Like my Mom used to tell me, a hard head makes for a soft behind. I've seen some good points made, so I'll keep those hoses. Thanks for the input on this.
I DO live in Oklahoma,so we don't really see very much frigid weather.
That's something I considered when you said you had deleted those hoses. I didn't think you had many days that were in the 20's, or colder. Must be nice. :D
I've driven mine in -20 -30deg c on the highway without any problems being disconnected.
Like said above the cobra intakes don't have them.
I've always deleted them on all my 5.0's...they are both to COOL the EGR spacer from hot exhaust gas running though all the time AND to prevent throttle shaft icing...however I've never experienced throttle shaft icing issues, but I did experience brake booster check valve freezing issues in extreme cold....absolutely no power assist until underhood temps got up...related? I doubt it.

:eek: I'll never see temps here in Columbus like you see up there in Canada Dominator. If you've driven your car in temps that cold without icing issues, I should be good to go down here!
To see that both you and Dominator have deleted those hoses without issue gives me a lot of peace of mind Don. Thanks as always for the feedback. I think you're in a colder climate than I am. I'm in Zone 6 and I think you're in Zone 5.
i deleted my coolant hoses too, but like another poster, i live futher down south(Texas) and dont really need them.
