Thoughts:
Love it, despite the Shelby name attached. It's the attention to detail that wins this car over. Best. Mustang. Ever.
Your comments?
I can save up a good down payment by then (June 06) :D
Gonna trade in the new toy so soon? :D
Nope :D I can talk the wife into ANOTHER toy by then. Gonna try and get the Blue Monster to run low 12's. My parts are here and I'm puttin them in Friday.

Coolest Mustang EVAR. Words cannot describe what I think of that car.

Me likey!
Eric,
Love it "despite" the Shelby name..?
Oh, you mean Mr. W-My-Name-Out-For-Money?
I respect the man for what he did for Ford back in the day. But it's obvious that he wants to end his life on Ford's good side because ultimately that's how he'll be remembered. That still doesn't excuse 25+ years of cars with his name slapped on them. He sold his name to the highest bidder, end of story. And everything else that he's accomplished in the last 15 years, aside from this car, has come by way of a lawsuit. I'd still take the new car but you'd better believe the nomenclature would come off the rear spoiler pretty quickly.
I'd keep the snake emblems though. :D
Hmmm... Already used as desktop Background LOL
Derailment time.
I'm not saying this to condemn your point or anything.. hell, I've said similar things about "sellouts" in the past.. but I've been thinking a lot about this lately for a couple reasons.
Frankly, I find it amazing that most of us supposedly champion a capitalist society, yet when someone does something like this that is perfectly legitimate within the bounds of a capitalist society, we often rip them to pieces. I mean, yeah, maybe I didn't care for some of the Mopar econo-boxes with his "endorsp00get" on them.. but it's not like I've seen anything about the man's deeds that was outright illegal. *coughDeLoreancough*
I get to see a bit of an exaggerated version of this in the online games I play where I sell credits on Ebay. I often see people who expect help in the games (even to the point of begging for money, training, whatever) and are absolutely livid when I won't help them. It's like they think that everyone should just smile and hold hands and distribute the wealth equally. I tend to call them Communists quite often.. as you can imagine, it doesn't go over well.
I also think about this a lot lately because we're trying to go after government money allocated for new business startups and the like. (to create jobs, etc.) I think I have several ideas that can be successfully implemented and expanded upon, and I even think we can do it without being complete and utter s about it, but sometimes I feel like I almost need to be apologetic for feeling like I could be a success with this someday. It's like everyone wants to be successful, but if they're not, they don't want to see anyone else succeed either.
Anyway, back to the car. I don't really have a problem with Shelby's name being on it. My biggest "problem" with the car is that it's still a Mustang. I used to like Mustangs.. but now I'm getting a bit oversaturated on them. I like most old Mustangs, I liked the Fox Mustangs, I don't like the SN95s, and now I'm just sorta "meh" on this body. I'm sure it's an exceptional piece of automotive engineering.. but I'd still rather see a Cougar version of it.. and believe it or not, I'd rather drive my T-birds than that Mustang.. even if my T-birds have like 1/3rd or 1/4th the power of that. At least with my T-birds, I don't feel bad about MAKING them mine.. putting the engine I want in 'em, making them as comfortable as I want 'em, etc. With a car like that Shelby, it almost feels like a crime to alter it much.
If I want a car I'd be hesitant to modify, I'll just hold out (this is all in the "dreamer" realm, anyway) for a GT.

I'd agree with you there, if it weren't for the fact that they plan to make as many as people will buy. These are not going to be any more rare than a Shelby Daytona Charger. Exclusivity will be nill, and it'll just be viewed as an uber Mustang GT. If they did a limited run, like with the original GT500, then the story would be different. These will just be another SVT cobra in ten years, and they won't hold any value.
The more expensive the car, the less likely I'd be to modify it.. but that's mainly due to my current frugal-by-necessity mindset. Hard to tell what would happen if I had "money to burn" again.
Still.. with my T-birds, I feel like I can do unusual stuff to 'em I probably wouldn't do to a new car no matter how much money I had/have/will have at the time.
You really think that older Cobras don't hold value? I do understand what you mean though, Cobras don't go up in value after you drive them off the lot, but I do believe that Cobra Mustangs do hold a sales edge over a GT, and are much more desirable to own. I know that I personally would give my left nut to own a 93 Cobra (or an 2003-04 for that matter). I really don't care about any Mustangs from 96-2001, when the power was down for the earlier years, and the restyle needed more looks.
Maybe you're down on the Cobras so much b/c in :canada: it was more of a name and not a real performance package on the 87-92 fox bodies? ;)
I love the car, but I think I would have to pop off the cobra emblm on the front grille to clean it up. That cross hatch grille is too cool to stick a knick knack on it. Jason.
Awsome car, as far as Carol Shelby goes, he's still a genious. Yes we would all like to forget the Shelby Daytonas and the such, but look at the automotive world as a whole there. With the tough emmisions standards and gasoline prices, true performance cars had almost been completely forgotten about. I can't fault the man for having to make a living. Once the market came back, and he was offered projects, he jumped on them(though the Cobra was supposedly going to be his last project). I do believe that he is very passionate about the true performance cars he puts his name on. As much as I hate Chevy's, if they offered me $1m a year to go work for them, I wouldn't think twice about it. I'm just glad they finally have a Mustang that I would like to own, I don't like the fox-body stangs(other than for the fact that it is the car responsible for bringing performance back imho), the sn-95 were ok, but before that, the last real mustang died in the early 70's
I have no problem with Cobras. :) And I'm sure they're still worth more than a GT. But these GT500's won't hold or gain value anything like the original GT500, simply because there are going to be so many of them. I'd still kill for one, and that's saying a lot, since I really don't like Mustangs for the most part, since '73.
Me likey, me likey alot!!!
This is great news. The suspension has been tweaked and tuned, the huge powerful motor, some different nose & tail pieces, big brakes, and it's one hell of a Shelby.
My problem with the new Mustang has been solved. When I went to the dealer the brochure listed nothing but mega-watt radios, big wheels and rocker panel stickers. I asked about performance options like suspension kits etc and they said, "Sorry, not this year."
I'm on board for a Shelby Mustang.
