Title: another how to question
Post by: HooptiCat on November 30, 2008, 04:11:53 PM
alright how do i install my new thermostat? the cougar is overheating, it heats up real bad and then all of a sudden the coolant drains back into the system. weird. then it heats back up again and drains every so often.

For '84 it's:
2.3L 10.8 qts
3.8L 11.7 qts
5.0L 14.2 qts

By the way, since you didn't answer in your other thread, when you put the ignition in run without starting, what does the fuel pump do.

drain should be on the pass lower side.  Good luck using it thougth, just leave your rad cap off so the rad can get air to drain.

It's gonna be a PITA to crack open (without breaking it) if it aint been used in a while...

ok,, ill guess your in harrisburg PA?

Ill also guess its cold outside and thats where the car would be worked on.

Ill also guess the radiator is factory.??
If it is the original one, the pet pen 15 valve will be like a metal wing nut.  These type if you can get to drain are best because there is a round opening which a hose can be stuffed over and you can drain it more directly into an old antifreeze jug.

if its got a plastic wing nut, have fun.  You gotta loosen it up and then at that magic point, it will start draining.

if it never drains, its clogged.

Drivers side lower part of the radiator looks like a butterfly valve
