Title: engine accessory studs?
Post by: grutinator on November 27, 2008, 11:29:51 PM
im getting ready to put my timing cover and water pump on the 347 but i got a question. i know that some of the bolts that held on the stock water pump and timing cover were studed. i got an electric water pump that came with regular bolts and and arp timing cover/water pump kit that were also regular bolts(were theres no stud on the outside of the bolt head). now my question is what did the patruding studs hold on? im far from putting the accessories on so i cant tell. im hoping i can get away without them since niether kit came with the studs but id rather ask before i get into trouble.

thanks

You will need them if you keep the stock brackets. I'll get you a pick of my setup tomorrow, unless someone else beats me to it. I just torqued everything down and let it sit overnight, then I swapped them out as needed after I re-blue silicone them.

well me being the bright guy i am. it took me a day or two to realize, 'hey i have a 1988 cougar in my driveway with, get this, a 5.0 engine'. hooray.i cant make this stuff up. im that dumb. lol. :mullet: so anyways, it looks like the studs are on the drivers side of the pump. and the bottom two hold on the powersteering pump. i cant remember offhand now but i think theres a third higher up for an A/C bracket so i can get away without that. so thanks for trying to help guys.

IIRC  you can get the studs from the HELP brand
