i'm thinking of buying a 1982 ford thunderbird. does anyone know a site on these 1980-82 birds and cougars. i want to modify it and learn more about these unwanted foxbodys and i don't find anything on these cars. i was thinking of dropping a fuel injected 331 stroker, 8.8 rear end a built aod transmission but i'm not sure if it has a computer and if it does do i have to buy something to by pass it and make it where it can adjust to it. thank you for your help and time and efforts.:burnout:
Anything you can do to these cars, you can do to the '82 Birds with the right parts.I've seen people swap in Mustang harnesses and EFI engines.Of course, you'll have to get fuel lines and do some work, but it can be done.I've also seen peiople do these swaps into the Futura.
I like those cars, I always keep my eye out for a 80-81 Cougar XR7 with a 302, but they're pretty rare now. Well, I know that they're carbureted, they're 4 lug, and the rearend is a 7.5". Like Vinnie said, you can do a lot since it's on the fox chassis. What motor is in yours? 1982 could either be a 3.8 V6 or a 255 V8.
it has a v 8
you have one sweet ride. i own a 79 capri rs myself as well
i love these cars because they weren't really loved when they first came out and they were a three year production car only. there super light and you couldn't go wrong with these cars because from what i've heard and learned there just a mustang pretty much. i'm working on trying to get my hands on a 84 ltd lx. how about that. when was the last time you saw a ltd lx. i know its not a bird or a cat but there is alot of unknown fords and mercs out there that didn't get the love. as for the cougar 80-81 xr7 with the 302. i've seen one here and that poor car is being held up with duck tape and coat hangers. its not a pretty sight by any means. if i get a chance and see it i'll take a picture and let you see it for your self. thank you for the help everyone in here
thank you for the help.:D
thank you for the help. i truly appreciate it:bowdown:
There's an XR-7 here in town at a local yard. It's been there for quite a while.I think it's missing a door.I really didn't pay close attention.I believe there's a same year Bird over at the big yard I go to on occasion. What part of Texas are you in?
I was gonna drag this one out of the junkyard, but we never could get the retarded Lumina sold, and I didn't know if it had a title or not.

Thanks Mr. Squirrel, post up some pics of your Capri and the Thunderbird. We love pics around here. :hick:
I know, I'm a fan of all fox bodies not just a particular model. There was some great cars that came from that platform including the LTD LX that most people overlook.

so far i have installed a rebuilt nonstock longblock roller 306 out of friends 1995 COBRA stang-$500.00.
the AOD automatic tranny and the 8.8 WITH FACTORY3.55 traction-lock rear end is out of a co-workers 1987 merc Grand Marquis ,that only had 55,000miles on the car, before there grand daughter customize the front end(totaled)-$300.00.
i installed a rear sway bar from 1996cobra-$25.00.
the front sway bar from a turning into a drag racer1993 cobra-$free.
my exhaust so far is aftermarket 1-5/8 shorty and 2 1/2 mandrel bent H-pipe FOR 1994/95 5.0-$free.
so i just have ford svo carb intake on long block because i can't make up my mind which way i want to go(EFI or carb).right now i'm looking for a holley proinjectionEFI, SO i can have the carb look but the EFI performance.
i pulled the complete 1982 255;v-8 drive train(engine, tranny, rearend out and put it in corner of my shop just case someone wanted to turn the cougar back stock.
hope you all the best on yours:
